Lights Out at Monday Night Football: The Monday Night Football game in San Francisco between the 49ers and the Pittsburgh Steelers has been delayed twice because of a power outage at Candlestick Park. A transformer explosion caused the first outage before the game. Another began at approximately 9:30 p.m. Eastern with the 49ers leading 6-0.
When a fan ran out onto the field during the second delay, Ben Roethlisberger said to a teammate, "Where's James Harrison when you need him?"

Harrison posted on Twitter: "If I cant play then can't nobody play... Lights out!"

Candlestick by name, candlestick by nature.

Is there still any controversy about the new stadium? My cynical nature inspires me to suspect a conspiracy here. A little "crappy old Candlestick is an embarrassment to our fine city!" might go a long way in that department.

How was Roethlisberger determined to be healthy enough to play? He couldn't really have been better than Batch at that point. I assume Tomlin watched the same warm-up as we did. Roethlisberger could barely move, and it showed -- 3 ints and 1 fumble.

As a Steeler fan, I have some serious issues with last night. First, is a 75% Ben better then a healthy Charlie Batch or Dennis Dixon. The way the 49ers were coming after Ben, someone a little mobile may have been helpful. Second, if you decide you want to play him, fine, but in mop ujp time with 4 min left, down 3 scores, I think it is tiome to sit him down. Ben healthy is the only chance this team has.

Makes sense to me. I'd even think about sitting him for these last two games. If I'm counting correctly, it would be almost impossible for the Steelers to get knocked out of the playoffs, and damn hard for them to get bumped back to 5th seed (and they're not gonna win the division, so...).

Dear Candlestick Park (or whatever it's called nowadays)...
Well yesterday it was Candlestick Dark.

Steelers need Ben and Pouncey healthy to have a shot this year. I didn't notice last night - was Hines Ward inactive, or just irrelevant?

It was slightly funny watching the talking heads trying to find something relevant to say during the outages.

Irrelevant. Hines has been banged up but has slowly moved from the #3 to the #4 or 5. The steelers have a great young group with Wallace, Brown, and Sanders, and Jerico Chochery(sp) has been solid too. I really think they just want to ghet Hines his 1000 catches and hope he hangs it up after this year.

They are def in the playoffs and now would need another Ravens loss to get back into the top 4. They are almost def not going to win the division, but yes it would be hard to fall to the 6 spot. I would sit Pouncey and Ben as well. Get healthy for a run.

Barring a major collapse from the Ravens the Steelers are the 5 seed travelling to Denver for the 1st round.

The new stadium in Santa Clara is progressing fine, the financing was just put in place; even so opening day is not supposed to be until 2015.

Dear Candlestick Park (or whatever it's called nowadays):
Please pay your power bills. And look at your electrical system.
Love,
The NFL.
