Colts Lose 34-7 to Texans: The Indianapolis Colts marked the end of Peyton Manning's consecutive-start streak by losing 34-7 to the Houston Texans. Replacement Kerry Collins fumbled twice leading to first quarter Texans touchdowns. "Epic in its awfulness," observed Indy Star's Bob Kravitz. In other opening NFL Sunday games, Baltimore stomped Pittsburgh, the New York Jets came back against Dallas and Philadelphia rolled over St. Louis.

Dallas had a chance to redefine itself by taking a win home from New York, but Romo and the punt blocking team gave it away. Dez Bryant arguably should not have been in the game late in the fourth, given how he was running. Throwing at Darrelle Revis covering half a receiver with deep help makes no sense at all.

I went to the Jacksonville game and saw a nice grind-it-out win over Tennessee. Luke McCown didn't have to do much, but I can see why receivers like him. They call him "Ball Out" because he gets it out there so fast. The Jags controlled the game but nearly gave it away at the end.

The temperature was so hot at EverBank Field formerly Jacksonville Memorial formerly AllTel Stadium formerly the Gator Bowl that a fan collapsed in the tunnel leading out of my section. I don't see how fans can stomach beer in that heat. I was guzzling water and Gatorade.

At first, it seemed like the announcers were blaming Bryant for that interception, but with the replay, I have no idea where Romo was throwing. The Dallas defense looked like the great defense in this game though.

Anyone know why Baltimore went for the two-point conversion when they were beating Pittsburgh by a gadzillion points? Further humiliation? Practice?

Cam Newton was a surprise. I didn't think he was going to be that kind of rookie QB. Good decision by Carolina - though I never thought I'd say that.

The Colts completely collapsed without Manning. I wonder if Manning or Caldwell was coaching the last two seasons.

In the words of Woody Hayes, because they couldn't go for three.

The announcers pointed out that Baltimore's trick play could keep teams on their toes when it comes to extra points (or maybe even FGs). Also, it was a pretty sweet play.

It's a Harbaugh thing, I think. John wanted to do it to Pittsburgh before brother Jim had a chance to do it to Pete Carroll later in the day.

I think Remus Rob Ryan is gonna be a good thing for Dallas. But that Romo guy...if he decided to pull a Plaxico, sure as hell, he'd shoot himself in the middle leg.

Watching the Jets / Dallas game gave an early reminder how good both of these teams could be if either had a quality QB. Rob Ryan's defence and an offence that doesn't puke up the ball (ahem .. Kitna) seems like a good solution in Dallas; Jets need to realize Sanchez isn't Peyton Manning and get back to some form of run game.

How about those two kick return TDs from Ted Ginn for the Niners? PRetty sweet way to wrap up The Other Harbaugh's first W.

(ahem .. Kitna)

Jon Kitna? The guy who threw 12 picks and fumbled 6 times in only 9 starts last year, is your solution? Yeah, good luck with that.

To spite my fantasy football kicker. They also went for a fourth and 1 in field goal range shortly after that two-point conversion.

They'd be a fool to look at the personnel they have, and the potential they saw in Sanchez, and not give him a shot to run the offence. All the tools are there, and they're 1-0 so far, after almost making the Super Bowl.

That, and playing 10 points down tends to lead you to abandon the running game a little, especially when your backs can't get 4 yards to save their life.

At least your kicker made it through the game.
Kaeding injures himself on the first play of the game. Looks like he's out for the year. Ugh. Never lost a play on the first play before...first game, yes, first play, no.

As a Charger fan, I'm deeply conflicted. It would have been much better if he'd hurt himself on the last play of the regular season and removed himself from the playoffs only.
