Serena Williams faces sanction from the WTA for chewing out the umpire during the US Open final; she was on a two-year probation after her outburst at a line judge in 2009, and her post-match amnesia isn't likely to help her case.

It was a questionable call whether Williams was interfering with Stosur, so they should just let it go. The woman's game without Williams is yawn-inducing.

I'd have been happier with her continuing to chew out the umpire in the post-match interview than putting on her tiara and pretending that she didn't remember what she said. That's just bullshit.

So the new kickoff rule was put in place so there were less returns thus less collisions. Do you think It is working? I saw many many returns from 7-8 yards deep. Did they really change anything?

I would agree the game is better with her in it, but not if this is how she acts now. That was well beyond acceptable and the post-match hallucination speaks to a sense of entitlement the game could do without.

Alexander Galimov, the only survivor of last week's plane crash involving the KHL team, has died of burns suffered in the crash.

What a shame. The new Lokomotiv team, built from other rosters, is going to start in the KHL's second division.

As far as disagreements with the chair umpire go, I thought it was pretty mild. I've seen many extended rants in tennis that interrupted game play. Unless Williams is operating under a different standard, then her behavior is generally acceptable in tennis.

"You're a hater, unattractive inside. Who would do such a thing? And I never complain. Wow, what a loser."

I don't quibble with Williams' behavior as much as I do her choice of words. It's like she spent her entire childhood on the tennis court and never experienced the normal maturation process.

Her behaviour was not acceptable, on a tennis court or anywhere else. She was already on probation for chewing out an official. She should get the book thrown at her. But she won't, because that's not how professional sport works.

A penalty kick so bad the goalie consoled the shooter.

Ya think? Talk about a hothouse flower. Who has a call go against them and decides they can tell the person the color of their chi is totally off? I'd have been more ok with "Fuck you, asshole" than that New Age bullshit that's basically a proxy for "racist bitch".

Seabass just hit a record-tying 63 yard field goal.

Looked like it would have been good from about sixty-three and a third.

It was so casual and natural, I'll be curious how many people noticed it when it happened live.

Judging by Twitter at the time, a fair number. I immediately searched for it because I couldn't tell if I'd heard what I thought I heard. Sucks to be him in today's connected world. Dandy Don could have gotten away with it every year.

I didn't even notice it, but I was wondering what he was apologizing for later.

I did hear it but had to do a double take in if I actually heard what I heard. Until he apologized, I was thinking I just heard wrong.

It was so casual and in mid-sentence that it was like having a conversation with a buddy.
