Highly entertaining review of the year in La Liga from Sid Lowe, including lots of video clips.

Odd brush with fame today.
I was accompanying my wife at her chemotherapy session today, and noticed the guy next to me was wearing a Pittsburgh Steelers Superbowl ring on his right hand. He had two similar rings on his left hand, but I couldn't make out what teams they were for. The ring I could see was from their '78 Superbowl. He was a black guy, guessing in his mid 60's, maybe slightly older. 6'2 at best, not real big, maybe 220#.
I politely asked him about the ring, asking who he was. He says, fairly loudly, "none of your damn business" and then turns all three rings around, so all you see is the back band.
I didn't press the issue, but thought it was odd. Those rings are conversation starters, and why wear all three if you don't want to talk about it?
BTW, he was with his wife, who was the patient. She rolled her eyes at him.

I looked for black 1978 Steelers under 6-foot-3 with three rings, but didn't find any. They mostly had four (1974, '75, '78 and '79) or two ('78 and '79).

"none of your damn business" = "I bought them on e-bay or in a pawn shop" (?)

Always fun to see the slingshot throw ins. The fabulous Kim Pickup used to do those routinely and magnificently when playing in the pro W league in the eastern US a few years back.
Any throw in 20 yards or closer from the endline, she would come up from the backline and take. The stadium PA would always oblige with the standard shark music from Jaws as she walked up the touchline toward the spot.
Last I heard of her pro career, she was in San Diego. Couldn't find a video, just a small photo.

There were a lot more white guys on the 1978 Steelers than I expected. I wonder if the racial makeup of the league has changed.

Dunno rcade, but American hair care ads are awful.

I actually don't think that they were all Steeler rings, at least from the look I got. For all I know they could have been rings for college bowl games.
Could be off on the height by an inch or two, but it could also be a coach/trainer as well.
