A nickel off the price of a pitcher???
Wow, I can see how that pissed off the Pirates. Yeah, if I lived in Pittsburgh I'd be making a trip over to this bar.

Sounds like Pirates account executive Angela Criscella is gunning for a real job.

I posted this in the huddle earlier.
My thought is if you want to be made fun of less, win more.
I actually live near this bar and have been in it many times. Its a nice little dive bar. I would bet their intent was like they said, just to drown your sorrows, not to promote losing.

The owner was on the radio this morning and said Mr Coonelly called her and reemed her out on the phone. She said he was an asshole. I cracked up.

Were you listening to "The X" too? It was great. I can see this being and ESPN story by tomorrow by the way it is blowing up around here.

A team that dresses (or used to dress) its players like this is in a perilous place to be making a stand on dignity.

making a stand on dignity.
You lost those rights when you set the record for losing seasons in a row in all of sports history.
Dont dog the uniforms. Pittsburgh is the only city in the US that has all its major sports teams in the same colors. BLACK AND GOLD 4 LIFE. And the could have looked like the old Expos or Astros. Now those were some bad uniforms.

I liked most of those Pirate unis from that era, as far as double knits, etc. go. As Debo said, there were lots of worse ones.
Liked the layer cake hats too.
Guys like Dave Parker were badasses no matter what they had on.
And Kent Tekulve looked like an advance scout from ET's mothership no matter what he had on.
I think the color shown in the Rhoden card photo may not be the exact color of the uni, but rather a rendition of what Dock Ellis might have thought the color was on certain days.

Okay, I'll bite:
A sign in front of the bar on Fairhaven Road said, "If the Pirates lose, you win." The promotion called for a discount of a nickel off a pitcher of beer after every loss by the Pirates, who haven't had a winning season since 1992.
How exactly is getting a whole nickel off a pitcher "winning?" Even Charlie Sheen wouldn't buy that definition.
And the wording doesn't sound like the atmosphere is one of commiseration. It sounds to me like, "Hey, the Bucs suck, so let's make fun of it."
I'm not necessarily against that, but if I worked for the Pirates, I wouldn't exactly be thrilled about it, either.

I can't think of another, true. However, the Blue Jays, Maple Leafs and Argos all play in blue and white. TFC play in red and white, though.

I took it to mean they got a nickel off for EACH game they lost ... so as the season wears on, the beer gets cheaper and cheaper. At 100 or so losses, that's about $5 cheaper by the end of the season.

Interesting that the TFC are mentioned but the Raptors are left out. They are also red/white prominent.
As for the Penguins being gold/black, it definitely hasn't always been that way.

At this point, the Pirates should be appreciative that there are bar owners in town who are cognizant of their wins and losses.

Sorry, Debo, I will always dog that uniform. The fact that some teams (such as the '70s Astros) may have had even uglier uniforms doesn't change the fact that those are pure clown suits.
On a more relevant-to-the-topic note, what do Pittsburgh fans think about all this? Are they generally approving of the actions/statements of the Pittsburgh staff?

Living in Pittsburgh, the fans are going crazy. The Pirates are getting almost zero support. Most people are mad that the Pirates are trying to bully a little mom n pop bar. This is not going well for them in the media. Most pople think that the team has far bigger issues that they need to worry about.

Radio line of the day:
Usually when we here the Pirates talking about discount price on pitchers, the conversation is about our rotation not the bar.

So did I. In fact, I had one simply because I loved the cap.
Today, not so much, but 10 year old Gary loved the uniform.

Way to make yourselves look even worse, Pirates! This is reason number 677 or so you are losers on a continuing basis while practically all other major league teams enjoy at least occasional success. Your little stance against a small establishment will also probably result in a huge increase in their business.
