The Last Time the NFL Played on Tuesday: The rescheduled Vikings-Eagles game in Philadelphia was the first Tuesday game in the NFL since 1946. A torrential downpour moved the New York Giants/Boston Yanks game back a day to Oct. 1. Merle Hapes ran for two touchdowns and Ken Strong kicked a field goal and New York defeated Boston, 17-0. The Giants went on to reach the NFL Championship but lost to George Halas' Chicago Bears 24-14.

What numbers did NBC pull for the game last night?

Boston Yanks? Sounds like it went over about like you would expect with a team of that name playing in that city. Eventually, kind of became the Colts.

Joe Webb is now the best Tuesday night QB in the modern era. This pleases me.

I expect it probably went over just fine, given that people back then knew what "Yankee" means, unlike people today.

The belief that words never change meaning over time makes me gay.

Well, you just live it up then, rcade. You don't know what you've been missing.

Be like President Truman. Tell the public that your administration has pulled a boner.

Nothing wrong with that as long as you clean up after.

Actually, team owner Ted Collins, the manager for singer Kate Smith (of Philadelphia Flyers anthem fame), wanted a team in NYC, but the league wouldn't give him a franchise. He settled for Boston, but stubbornly called the team Yankees. Wikipedia explains the sordid history of the franchise that now plays its games in Indianapolis.
