Florida Hires Will Muschamp: Florida has hired Texas defensive coordinator Will Muschamp to replace Urban Meyer. Muschamp, 39, is a Gainesville native who was coach-in-waiting at Texas since 2008. He has 12 years of experience in the Southeastern Conference, eight as a coach and four as a player.
R.C. Slocum must be thinking: why couldn't the 'Horns have been in this kind of disarray when I was coaching A&M?

Didn't see this one coming. Muschamp seems like a pretty solid hire, though I don't understand why Texas would have declared him a head coach-in-waiting for a coach who (a) isn't that old, and (b) isn't making plans to retire.

With the departure of Wade Phillips and now Muschamp, as far as I can tell, there are now officially no coaches-in-waiting anywhere in Texas for the first time in years.
Isn't there any sense of urgency and concern about this? How long will people let there be a lapse in the promise of orderly dynastic succession before demanding that some measure of continuity be restored?

So the Longhorns have fired their Offensive Coordinator, lost their Defensive Coordinator, are the only team in the Big XII South to not make a bowl game and have no clear QB for the future. I wonder how Mack Brown is sleeping these days.
