Dan Hampton: not teaching sensitivity courses any time soon. You have to admire a guy who goes right back to the stove to find out if the pan is still hot. Or perhaps not.
Why in the world would anyone ever be offended by that?
What a douchebag!

What am I missing? That sounded like a decent apology...why does the site indicate otherwise?

I have nothing but the deepest respect and greatest admiration for the people of the Gulf Coast, and I am horrified that even one of you would think I would make light of the terror Katrina wrought, and that I have clearly offended so many of you.
By making the statement that the Minnesota Vikings should hit the New Orleans Saints "like Katrina", that's making light of what happened to New Orleans.

Apologies of the form "I'm sorry if you took offense" never sound fully sincere. You must accept that the offensiveness of your actions is objective fact and did not require a subjective observer.
Sometimes I apologize to my wife by simply saying "I apologize." Specifics can get you into trouble.

I hate any apology to those I offended. Why not just apology to everyone who heard it? It makes it sound like an apology just because some of you are so damn hypersensitive.

As far as the Cowboys comment, it seems like he is just restating what TO told us all about Romo and Whitten's relationship a couple of years ago....

Well, the last couple of sentences of the Katrina apology were fairly appropriate. So there's that. **cough**
