Gates Becomes NFL's Highest Paid Tight End: Antonio Gates has signed a $36.175 million, five-year contract extension -- with $20.4 million guaranteed -- with the San Diego Chargers, making him the NFL's highest-paid tight end. The six-time Pro Bowler has caught 59 touchdowns in seven seasons since being signed as an undrafted free agent out of Kent State in 2003.
Let's have more finds like him in the league. I'm tired of watching draft day unfold.
Also tired of watching all the Leafs and Bosworths flame out after the pre-draft hysteria goes away.

I wonder how much further up this list Gates will go by the time his career is done.

Hell of a player. And with Vincent Jackson serving a suspension and a rookie in the backfield (not to mention a suspect defense), Gates will need to earn all of that money early in the season.

Great list there (although I have a problem with Romo at #16 when I see who's below him).
Gates would probably already be higher up the list if he played closer to the East Coast and got more TV time.
Special credit is due to those players who made the league after going undrafted back when the NFL draft went up to 17 rounds. And in some years saw well over 200 more players selected than are selected today.
