Kendry Morales hits "carry-off" grand-slam home run:
Leaping into the crowd at home plate, Morales breaks his leg after hitting a grand-slam in the bottom of the 10th to win the game.
At least he ended his season with a grand slam.

We had a boy on our high school basketball team who showboated a hanging dunk to win a particularly important game for our school. He could have gotten it in without the theatrics, but he was excited. Anyhow, he landed wrong and broke his leg in two place.
The next game was the "Farewell Seniors" game and he was in a full leg cast. I can't recall what his mother said specifically, but when they called him up at half time to recognize him (with the other seniors), she said some very colorful things about his intelligence level vis a vis various woodland creatures.
Anyhow, not saying Morales was showboating - indeed, it looks like he just had a bad landing - but it made me remember that story.

Whether it's showboating or not, I bet it happens less for a while. What a fluke.

The words of Joe Paterno ring through here: "Act like you've been here before." Look back at films from the '70s and before. 'Nuff said.

Jumping onto home plate after hitting a game winning home run?
Carlton Fisk's two-footed jump onto home plate in 1975.
Bobby Thompson's two-footed jump onto home plate in 1951.

Yeah, I don't think Morales was thinking to himself, "I better not jump in the air, I might shatter my leg."

Wait, he jumped on home plate and gave himself a tib-fib fracture?
That's weak. Literally.

Wait, he jumped on home plate and gave himself a tib-fib fracture?
There is some speculation that the initial jump was fine, but he sort of hopped up again and came down on just one leg, snapping it. The pressure of the guys pushing down on him might have caused him to land awkwardly.

The tradition in show business is to wish someone luck by saying "go break a leg". Morales didn't really have to take it literally, did he?

Crazy situation. It doesn't even look like someone in the scrum got under him- he just landed funny.
Tangent: the Mariners are so disappointing this year. Thought they'd rule the West, but every game seems like their starter goes 7-8 and only gives up 1 or 2 runs.... and gets the loss or no-decision.
