SportsFilter: The Friday Huddle:

Not every franchise fan base would place behavioral standards and team and civic image above competitiveness and on-field results on their list of priorities.
I'd take that with a grain of salt. It's not really the "franchise fan base", but a vocal group on the internet.
I read as much into that as I do news reports that say "Team X's fan base would never support a player who used PEDs. Here are a few we interviewed, plus a screenshot of a comment posted to an obscure fan website."

I don't believe the Steelers fan base would be willing to be "less competitive" for several years in exchange for removing the shame that Roethlisberger has heaped on the franchise.
He led the team to two Super Bowl victories in four years. If the replacement at quarterback is a procession of no-hopers like the ones who have played for the Browns lately -- and that could easily happen -- Steelers fans would be angry at management for getting rid of Big Embarrassment.

The only thing that might shut LeBron-mania down in the next month and a half is this year's edition of Favre-mania, should Brett decide he wants some attention and say he's contemplating retirement "very seriously".

41 arrested in Montreal after Canadiens beat Pittsburgh, yet MLB moves a series from Toronto because of "possible problems". Other than the previous discussion, is there something I don't understand?

Game 7 becomes a microcosm of the series. Boston held a 3-0 lead, but we're going into the 3rd tied 3-3...

Many people may have Big Ben fatigue at this point, as I do.
But I still found it noteworthy in recent reports that some Steelers fans are so done with him that they simply want the team to cut him and get him gone ASAP.
Rather than take the time to try to get some trade value for him.
And these fans seem unconcerned about the team possibly having to eat some contractual money in the process.
All this with the understanding that the team may become a lot less competitive for a period of time if he goes.
