33-Year-Old Marine Hopes to Be Drafted: One of the college football players hoping to be drafted Thursday, Ball State defensive lineman Brandon Crawford, is 33 years old. His path to the NFL wound through a high school arrest involving a stolen car, a factory job and a stint in the Marines. "As long as there is a little crack in the door, he'll try to push through it," said Ball State coach Stan Parrish.

I haven't seen much on this from Jason Whitlock. I may have missed his columns on it if they are out there.

Usually he is all over any story with a whiff of glory from Ball State.

Also, I wonder if Crawford has been contacted by Letterman.

I will see your 33 year old and raise you a 58 year old trying to pitch collegiately?

"As long as there is a little crack in the door, he'll try to push through it,"

Applied to this Marine (there's no such thing as an ex-Marine), that's a compliment to his perseverance. Applied to some other athletes with substance abuse problems, it takes on a different meaning entirely.
