Warren Moon: Donovan McNabb Can't Get No Respect: Hall of Famer Warren Moon, who was traded by the Houston Oilers in 1994 after a 12-4 season so they could start Cody Carlson and Billy Joe Tolliver at quarterback, is not happy about the way the Philadelphia Eagles are treating Donovan McNabb in a similar situation. "It's mind-boggling they would put Donovan in this position," Moon said. "He's hearing about things second hand, which I don't think shows him a lot of respect."
Am I missing something? He is a contract employee, not a member of a family. If the rest of the working world complained the way that athletes did about respect, nothing would ever get done. Don't get me wrong, I think McNabb has been a wonderful assett for many years, but just like many in the working world, his value to the organization simply isn't what it used to be. He made millions of dollars and was the city's golden child for a long time; that time has passed. I could frankly care less if he feels respected.

It's not just the Eagles front office showing lack of respect, you should hear the fans here in Philly.
I heard them the day they drafted McNabb.

As long as I've rooted against the Eagles, I've never seen McNabb ever being treated as this so-called 'golden child' that you speak of. Also, it wasn't McNabb who said that he didn't feel respected, that comment was made by Hall of Famer Warren Moon and he would know since he was put in a similar situation but was respected enough by the organization that they came to him first.

That's interesting, because lots of people feel that when an NFL player holds out during training camp for more money/better contract, he's "disrespecting the team/fans".

Exactly what I was thinking, Grum.
Also worth noting that this is Moon complaining about the treatment of McNabb. McNabb himself never complains. Additionally, whatever city McNabb was the "golden child" in sure as heck wasn't Philadelphia.

So once he's not needed anymore they don't even owe him the courtesy of a phone call to tell him what's going on? He took them to a Super Bowl.

Actually grum, I think that what most people get pissed about during a holdout is the cost to the team in terms of being ready for the season; not that holding out is disrespectful.
And Dude, it IS worth noting that it was Warren Moon making the comment. I have no beef with McNabb and wish him nothing but the best.
I suppose what perplexes me is that we as a public care more about rich athletes pride and need for respect than we do our next door neighbor's well being. If feeling a little hurt because you didn't like the way you were let go to enjoy your millions is your biggest problem, don't bitch to me about it.

I guess no matter how successful a QB career, a team with the contending talent like Philly has had over some of the McNabb years, really is paying the QB to win a SB. No matter how many times you make the playoffs with a talented team, not winning a SB will always feel like it has some element of failure for both the player and the fans.
To me Philly had a few seasons where they had everything they needed to win a championship except that SB winning QB. McNabb was a good QB not a great one. Good mobility for awhile but a lot of injuries have ended that phase of his play and his passing accuracy was always suspect. I think he made a lot of broken plays into something for awhile. He should make the Eagles HOF or have his number retired by the team but not the NFL HOF.

Which ones? Because all I can recall is a guy that gave enough on the field he was puking by the end of the playoffs. Twice. The year they lost to Seattle in the playoffs, I thought the other talent let McNabb down.

What you seem to not understand is that if it wasn't for McNabb, the Eagles would've never had those "few seasons where they had everything they needed to win a championship".
