Mr. David Deacon Jones: Watch and enjoy the best.
His linemates (Coy Bacon, Merlin Olsen, and someone whose name I can't recall) weren't too shabby, either. Gotta love those old Rams uniforms.

I wish the NFL would go back and count sacks for every season in which they have video and audio available of all games. It's a traveshamockery that Deacon isn't recognized for his sacks when he's the guy who named them.

To quote Rudy Ray Moore (Dolomite):
"I'm the one who killed Monday, whupped Tuesday, and put Wednesday in the hospital."
Wish they had included more footage of Jones going after Tarkenton. Watching that is better than having a scotch on the rocks.

mjkredliner that guy was Rosey Grier. Back in the day they were called the fearsome foursome.

That's just classic. Even the names back in the day were better than today. I really miss football the way it was played back then, and the way it looked. As someone who has followed the Rams for years and years, and who got to see Jones actually play when I was a very young lad, thanks for posting this.

Holy cats, its like watching the QBs get sucked up underneath a tidal wave. Remarkable.

It was funny he said that he walked away when he was no longer the best and that's why he can walk.

I enjoy seeing old footage of Tarkenton running for his life like the next man but com'on now, you took it a bit too far there with that one.

That was great. I had heard of him, but had never seen any footage. The pre-80s years of the NFL just aren't in my encyclopedia. Super cool into. And the fact that he coined the term "sack" because it was like sacking a whole city is really fantastic.

I hereby move that whoever has the most alltime sacks now or in the future forever be listed as #2 in the record books. The evidence seems to be there that he sacked more QB's than anyone else and as has been mentioned he coined the damn phrase "sack".
Deacon Jones is always #1.

"It's just like you take all the offensive players and put 'em in one bag. And I just take a baseball bat and beat on the bag." Damn, he's still a mean SOB.

I met him once when I was working at the Olympic Club in San Francisco. All you saw was that big smile and heard the roar of laughter. Actually now he's a pussycat, but I wouldn't say that to his face. Also love the Chargers' name on the back in the best uniforms ever, just "Deacon."
