The Path Less Traveled: Six years ago, no major college team wanted Pierre Garcon because he’d given them no reason to want him. Sunday he plays for the Super Bowl.

You know, his real name is Pete Waiter.

Actually, it translates to "Peter Boy," NoMich. So, I'd be careful how you use garon.
I was fascinated to learn this morning (on Facebook, no less!) that Garcon attended Norwich University here in Vermont. I see it is mentioned in the linked article.

Oops. I guess it's obvious that my French language skills are non-existent.

Speaking of language skills being non-existent, I believe that Garcon plays for the Colts. He's playing in the Super Bowl.

Have to love this story right now, today, because it's national signing day, and all the well-known studs are making their collegiate plans known to the rabid public.
I could care less about all that. The hot shots are going to go to the big programs. I'll watch 'em on TV when they get on the field a couple of dozen Saturdays from now. Rating teenage kids by numbers of stars like they were movies or restaurants...no thanks, not interested.
On the other hand, I never, ever get tired of hearing and reading about guys that did not benefit from having an A-1 opportunity path in HS, college or the pros despite having ability and aptitude comparable to the big name players. And that found a way to succeed regardless. Bring on the bootstrap sagas any old time.
Now, it is not necessarily part of god's plan for a guy named Pierre Garcon to NOT be playing for the Saints here. I thought they were supposed to have first shot at most or all the guys with the French names. Hebert, Delhomme, Pierre Thomas, Marques Colston, and all the rest.
When you have a guy named D'Artagnan Martin on your roster and a fleur de lis on your helmet, it is official. You are the anointed sons of Jean et Pierre Lafitte.

That's right, courtesy of Peter King, NoMich. It's just a play on words from his name.

*That's* where I heard that before. Actually, I think it was Dan Patrick mentioning Peter King coming up with that.

Peter King - is he any relation to Patrick Roy?

BINGO! On the well listened Dan Patrick Show, PK brought up the whole 'Peter Waiter' name which had me cracking up. DP also had an interview with Michael Vick on Monday where he said that hopefully next year he'll be a starting QB for another team and that in his opinion, he feels that he's a TOP 10 QB right now.
Peter King - is he any relation to Patrick Roy?
Doubtful but you never know.

Love the Dan Patrick Show. BornIcon: are you actually Chris in Syracuse?

I hope Tim Tebow read this and realizes that the opposite is also true.

That's a great story. He was lucky to get a QB like Manning, who puts in all that work with his WRs, but it looks like Garcon makes his own luck.

That makes the two of us. I listen to the DP Show daily and am also a Dan Nation member, love DP and the Danettes, best sports show on radio and TV.
I wish I could tell you that I was CIS but there's just no way that I'm as informative as he is.

I love how college basketball coaches give Dan Patrick so much shit in their interviews. Coach K is the best at it, but Roy Williams and Jim Boeheim come close.

It's funny hearing them talk to DP because they just seem so comfortable talking to him and provide him with so much information that the 'mothership' ends up jacking it and barely credits the Dan Patrick Show.
What about Rick Neuheisel 'accidentally' calling DP while playing his guitar?

That was my thought exactly. I wonder how common it is for a top-flight QB to put in so much work with rookie receivers?

the article says he runs a 4.5. I would have thought he was faster than that the way he made Ed Reed look like he was in slow motion on those 2 INTs a few weeks back. He looked like the fastest player on the field those 2 plays.
