Atlanta Falcons unveil new logo. I assume updated uniforms won't be far behind. Are the Falcons, after adding Peerless Price as a target for Mick Vick, trying the uniform upgrade tactic that worked so well recently for Denver and Tampa? Or is this more like the new unis sported by the Redskins part time last year.
Uuhh...does that bird have two heads? There's the usual one, then there's one beneath it, with its beak open. In other words, I hate it when teams update their logos/uniforms. The end result is usually really cheesy looking. Redone logos/unis that I hate: the Buffalo Sabres - I absolutely hate that bison head charging its way out of the sweater. the Denver Broncos - I loved the Durham Bulls rip off logo and the colors were great. the Tampa Bay Buccaneers - bring back Bruce, the gay pirate, dammit! If the Detroit Lions ever get a uniform makeover, I'll shit three bricks in anger.

I actually liked the old Detroit logo with the silver and blue bars and more stylized lion--what happened to that?

I agree with the Classics sentiment. Everytime teams try to modernize their logos they look way too futuristic. This one looks more like a skunkworks wet dream. I know they got to sell new uniforms to the fans every few years and all, but didn't they get the memo that the retro jersey look is back? Atlanta should go back to the old days, and use the "Crackers" logo.

Wow...well, at least the Falcons waited awhile to make a logo change. Uniform changes are coming April, also. Pure marketing, of course, as this will make some folks run out and buy the new gear with good ol' #7 on it.

I kinda like it. I don't usually agree with the motivation behind new logos and 3rd jerseys etc, but this one is a logical evolution, doesn't go too far, and actually might lead to adding a bit more red... back in the Glanville days they sort of led the fade to black among all teams in all sports... LionIndex, i don't think 've seen the logo you're talking about, do you have pictures?

IMO, the Falcons logo wasn't in need of much updating. It looked more modern and edgy than a lot of other NFL team logos. New logo looks pretty cool though. I'm sure it will propel some Vick jersey sales. NoMich, that's a talon I believe, not a second head. :) As a Niners fan, I'm happy we have a classic logo, but I do have to admit that it doesn't really look "cool" like some other logos - ie, I don't really have any Niners clothing. I guess some kind of update would be nice, but then again it's pretty tough to make a good logo for a number.

LionIndex, i don't think 've seen the logo you're talking about, do you have pictures? Well, no. The only place I've ever seen it is playing Madden, where it's the logo for some of the older (like '56) Lions teams. I'm not sure if it was ever actually on their helmets or if it was just their letterhead or something. Instead of the lion rearing back on its hind legs, it's standing on three with one front paw raised, while the tail is extended horizontally towards the head. Then there's two vertical bars behind it, one silver and one blue. This is from memory, so I'm fully prepared to be smacked down by actual Michiganders.

The new logo is great. The Falcons are moving to the Arena League, right?

This one? It's from LogoServer's NFL logos page. (Via the SportsFilter archives.)

Swank6, you might recall that the Niners introduced a new logo in '90 or '91 that lasted about three days before fan backlash led to a reversal. It was a stylish '49ers' that really did look horrible. Sorry I don't have pics. As a fan of the Broncos I didn't eagerly embrace the uni change, I like the Orange Crush, but let me tell you that a Super Bowl win, (or two), makes it much more palateable.

That's the one I was talking about. Looks a little better on Madden.

It's all about the marketing, baby! I don't like or dislike the change in the Falcons' logo ... but I do dislike the idea of Falcons' fans having to go repurchase all their gear if they want to be up-to-date. I think franchises should have to give one year's warning. That way, you don't rush out and buy a $200 authentic, only to have it be outdated within a year. A pipe dream, I know ...

NoMich - the Falcon bird doesn't have two heads - it's a head and a talon. Or were you being sarcastic? (Sorry, that doesn't show up well in writing ...) As for the Bucs' logo, you'll never see Bucco Bruce again. I have been a Bucs fan since 1977 and a season ticket holder since 1998, but even though I have a soft spot in my heart for ol' Bruce, after winning a Super Bowl in the red and pewter, I never want to see the creamsicle orange again! DON'T bring back Bucco Bruce - and GO BUCCANEERS!

For someone who's never really been a Falcons fan, I've always like their logo for some reason. The new one's nice, but a little predictable. When will we go back to classic logos?
