I've never liked A-Rod (and especially not his representative), but his sweated up and dirty uniform from last night's game -- after what he did, I don't know that I would let anyone wash that thing.

Do the umps actually pay attention to the game?

Dear Tiger,

Anything you can do, I can do better.

I have to agree, YYM. That was probably the worst call I have ever seen in major league baseball. I mean, we have all seen blown calls where an ump was out of position or too far from the play to get a good read on what happened. But in this case the ump was right there. And the players all moved after the play as if to let the ump know that they were getting away with something. And where was the help from the rest of the officiating staff?

It has been mentioned in comments in a couple of other threads, most recently the Klosterman Dinosaur thread, so here are a couple of posts about the Wildcat.

Chris Brown of the NY Times Fifth Down blog : How the Wildcat works.

The same Chris Brown, for his Smart Football site, with some brief words and footage of the Wildcat.

The same Chris Brown, again, in discussion with Mike Tanier on Football Outsiders, in a Dolphins-Jets game walkthrough. (Skip past the (accurate) nonsense about the new NFL red zone channel.)

Chris Brown now owes me $5.

Not-Chris-Brown at Scouts Inc looks at the plays run in the Wild Cat (and gets it a bit wrong, as the Dolphins have three bread-and-butter runs, not two).

Scouts inc also have an article entitled "How to beat the Wildcat", which I haven't linked to because it offers no such thing.

Not quite meaty enough for a FPP but this article has Mark Cuban's take on steroids. I'm with Cubes.

Thanks Mr. B. I'm forwarding your links to Rex Ryan as it is clear he has no idea what the wildcat offense is.

I've just noticed my third link is the same as my second link - see... the wildcat really does always look the same.

This is what the third link was supposed to point to :

American soccer fans ar rising in joy at the news that Fox Soccer Channel has extended their deal to show Premier League games for another three seasons. So much for ESPN jumping in whole hog.

Why would I be rising in joy when ESPN games are in HD now while FSC won't be going to HD on my cable system until sometime after Noggin?

Fox Soccer is supposed to be going HD in January.

Meanwhile, a club that once asked my uncle to be a Director, is in even more trouble.

He said no. Wisely it seems.

Well, my household could go HD today with a simple trip to Best Buy for cameras, but it wouldn't get me onto Comcast's HD tier any time soon. I'd still be stuck in the 400s.
