Coworker: Roethlisberger's Accuser is Lying About Rape: Andrea McNulty, the woman who has accused Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger of rape in a civil lawsuit, boasted to a coworker at the time of the alleged incident of having consensual sex with him, according to a sworn affidavit filed by that coworker Friday in court. Angela Antonetti said that McNulty told her she hoped she was pregnant with a "little Roethlisberger." "Because I knew that [her] lawsuit and false allegations would unfairly and unjustly hurt Mr. Roethlisberger, I wanted to set the story straight," Antonetti declares in the affadavit.
'At least someone came out and did the right thing. If it's true what this woman is saying, the accuser should go to jail.'
As should the perpetrator of the witch hunt with the Duke LaCrosse team.

Not rape. Or sexual assault. Or even non-consensual sex. Are there actual distinctions between these acts?
At least there is an athlete out there that had some actual intercourse. Hopefully he wasted a lot of his money. That would put the universe back in order.

As should the perpetrator of the witch hunt with the Duke LaCrosse team.
And everyone that accused the Duke LaCrosse team of being guilty of the crime before any of the facts were out. Like for example: Selena Roberts

Related Post-Gazette article about Roethlisberger's attorneys attack.

In their filing, Roethlisberger's attorneys accuse the woman and her attorneys of employing a "Nifong strategy," a reference to the disbarred and disgraced prosecutor in the Duke lacrosse case. He's become an adjective for malicious lawyering.
Reading that Post-Gazette article, it seems like his attorneys are confirming that he had sex with her. There's no denial of that claim, just a denial of sex assault.
Maybe A.C. Green had the right idea. Save yourself for after your career. Either that, or get really crazy and only have sex with your spouse.

A.C. Green was indeed correct with choosing to stay celibate until after marriage. With the way the world is today, it's open season for celebrities and people looking for a huge payday.

I think the comparisons to the Duke lacrosse case are a touch much. We are talking about a civil suit here. Further, neither her nor her lawyers have said anything to the press. The press got their information from the publicly available civil pleadings. And everyone that accused the Duke LaCrosse team of being guilty of the crime before any of the facts were out. Like for example: Selena Roberts
I think this is wrong-headed. Blaming people for believing a prosecutor is just ridiculous. I thought the lacrosse team wasn't cooperating as well. That's what the prosecutor said. No one from the team at the time had said anything else. All the players lawyered up. It looked suspicious. It turns out that the prosecutor was on some crazy power trip. I'm not apologizing for believing the prosecutor. I don't know why Roberts should.

Selena Roberts didn't have all of the facts to back up what she was writing and only believed what the prosecutor was saying. After the facts were out that the Duke LaCrosse team did not do what they were being charged with and the prosecutor was "disbarred and found guilty of criminal contempt", Roberts still refused to apologize and "continues to smear Duke and the team to this day".

I thought Duke was in North Carolina, not Wisconsin.

I agree with bperk that this isn't all that similar to the Duke lacrosse case, and it may be to some degree because some people have learned a lesson from that episode. It may also be because the accused is a more famous athlete, and the "victim" doesn't seem to have much credibility due to a changing story and waiting so long to report it. The Duke case seemed much more credible at first than this one ever did.

Fortunately, none of us here at Sportsfilter have ever jumped to a conclusion based on initial reports.
