Dirk Duped by a Gold Digger?: Nowitzki apparently bought her a $250,000 engagement ring. But at some point he also sensed something wasn't quite right and hired a private investigator to do some background work on his potential "the one."

More from the Dallas Morning News: Multiple Dallas Mavericks sources said Thursday that members of the organization cautioned Dirk Nowitzki about his relationship with Cristal Taylor and that he had suspicions about her long prior to her arrest on Wednesday.

While many Mavericks fans probably regard the timing as awful, with Dallas trailing Denver 2-0 in the second round of the playoffs, the team sources characterized the news and timing as "good," saying Taylor was a divisive influence between Nowitzki, his teammates and family members.

Dirk, you have my sympathy. I met my ex in a bar, and I was sober at the time. By the time I was done with her, I probably came close to running through the quarter million the ring cost Dirk. Coincidentally, my ex's mother used to raise Yorkshire Terriers. I hope Dirk can recover from this, and that the dog will bite the crap out of the girlfriend.

I love this paragraph from the article: Although she was booked into the Dallas County jail as Cristal Taylor, an indictment from Jefferson County identifies her as Crystal Ann Taylor and lists additional aliases: Christian Julie Wellington, Christian B. Travino, Crystal Nobles, Christy Nobles, Kristi Briana Westerhauf, Cristal Taylor Westerhaus, and Christa A. Westerhays

It would seem to me that having 8 aliases might be a red flag.

Careful, that's my future ex-wife you're talking about!

/My card and PIN number? Certainly.

Ouch. The Mavs already had trouble with the Nuggets, who have now beaten them six straight times this season. The Nuggets undergo a Hulk-like transformation late in the games and become even bigger, stronger and tougher in the paint and faster on transition -- and that half-human, half-bird creature gives me nightmares. I thought the Mavs had a shot, but I can't see this one going five games.

Maybe Dirk's clue should have been that she looks 48, not 28.

Ridden hard and put away wet is the phrase around here.

This is just one of the downfalls of being rich and famous. You will always have people coming into your life who just want you for your money and more then likely are lying about who they are. It sucks that he already bought the ring but if you sense something isn't right then it probably isn't.

Poor Dirk. It'll get better, dude. Just don't trust the ones who want the money.

From a purely analytical standpoint, I would think Dirk could have pulled a lot better-looking chick. Maybe she has a wonderful personality. Probably not, though.

I feel bad for the guy because no one knows what goes on behind closed doors. People can give their opinion about the girl but since we weren't involved in his relationship, we don't really know what type of person she portrayed herself to be. It sucks because since he went out and bought her an engagement ring that cost a 1/4 of a million dollars, he most likely wanted to have this woman become his wife. I do feel for the guys and how much of a distraction that has to be for him.

"People can give their opinion about the girl but" ...

But what? I know of no person with a single alias who is above board ... this "lady" has 7 aliases we know of and legal issues.

Worse yet - she looks like exactly who she is.

What is that supposed to mean? What distinguishing feature of her appearance makes her look like someone who has a long arrest record?

Why, it's the way she has combed her hair, of course. And just look at the way she is looking off to her left a bit. A sure sign she is hiding something.

Oh, and it's hard to tell from the photograph, but she is wearing a t-shirt that says "I'm a gold-digger with multiple aliases".

What feature of her appearance makes her look like someone you'd hook up with if you were an NBA star? She must be magic somehow. I hope she's the Shamwow of sex. Which is the only thing that will satisfy a seven foot tall German.

I've seen some websites that focus on how to satisfy a seven foot German and, let me tell you, they weren't for the faint of heart.

Criminal. Innocent woman. All I know is she looks like she's taken a few pairs of balls to the face at high speed.

Still, I do feel sorry for Nowitski. He must feel so stupid. Maybe he and Nash could get back together? He seemed so happy then.

It is all Cristal clear now...

In today's Dallas paper. they interviewed her former husband (well, actually the former husband's current wife, as he stood next to her) seems that Cristal/Crystal/Christian/Christy/Kristy/Christa ran up over $300,000 in credit card bills prior to their divorce.

What an awful person she is, and what a doofus he is for not cutting off the cards at some point.

How in the world could your spouse run up $330,000 in credit card debts without your knowledge? Even if you weren't looking at the credit statements, wouldn't you notice the purchases?

Good for Dirk for planning a pre-nup. That's the sure-fire way to ward off the gold-diggers, and one can't be too careful in his position. as this situation illustrates. I still feel bad for him. It's bad enough that he was fooled by this woman, still harder to have to go through it in public. I hope that the reports that there is a pregnancy involved are false. He will be tied to her forever then. Another thing that guys in his position need to be careful about.

Wouldn't be the first time. Remember last season when Josh Howard took a few days off from the team to go witness the birth of his child, but then it wound up not being his?

I have a strong suspicion that he never saw most of the purchases. Gold diggers aren't known to buy things to share.

But what? You took a sliver of my statement and actually tried to make an argument with it. If you would have used my entire quote, there would be no "But what?"

"People can give their opinion about the girl but since we weren't involved in his relationship, we don't really know what type of person she portrayed herself to be.".
