CFL Pick ’Em, Week 3: No boatloads of points this week: two and a half upsets will guarantee that anytime. Hamilton was a big SpoFi fan favourite back in the day; are those days threatening to return? Yikes. Make your picks inside.

Holy upsets, Batman. Hamilton runs absolutely roughshod over the Argos' home opener, and Edmonton pulls off a last-minute touchdown after nearly blowing their home-opener lead. Montreal stays consistent, but Saskatchewan is the only team that reminds us that it ain't 2003 all over again.

Tommy and owlhouse are the big gainers this week, while apoch and HATER take it easy to help the rest of us look good. Seriously though, with two big upsets and the coin toss in B.C., treasure any points you got this week.

Finally, some inter-division match-ups, but given the number of questions we still have about the intra-division match-ups, these probably won't help. WEEK 3 Calgary @ Montreal (Thursday, July 10) Calgary's traditionally enjoyed its eastern road trips, but Calvillo & Co. will have a field day if the Stamps play defence like they did last week. Toronto @ Edmonton (Thursday, July 10) One likes to think that Toronto's defence will be a little stingier against Edmonton than Calgary's was last week. One also likes to think that Hamilton didn't spank the Argos last week, too. B.C. @ Winnipeg (Friday, July 11) The Good News Bear wil be in attendance as the league's two unlikeliest 0-2 teams fight for the right to avoid going 0-3. Who wants to pick this one to end in a tie? Saskatchewan @ Hamilton (Friday, July 12) Hamilton returns home, flexing its newly-found muscle after dominating the Argos. But if Hamilton is the featherweight giddy after his first competitive knockout, Saskatchewan is the heavyweight whose car Hamilton scratched on the way into the arena. Or something like that. Good luck!

It appears that technical difficulties are causing SpoFi to display last week's pick 'em thread as having been posted today. Please believe me when I tell you that it was posted last week.

Given the relative success of my arbitrary system, I continue it into this week. This time I will use information obtained from the highly accurate wikipedia and pick my winners based on either the year the city was established or the province confederated, picking the winner from the older of the two. Anaconda, if you're reading this: I completely missed your Week 2 picks, since you posted them in the Week 1 thread. They're still valid and all, I just overlooked them and thus didn't put them in the table. I've put them in my spreadsheet and you'll be back in the scoring table next week.

I went to the Sydney International Film Festival a few weeks ago. Montreal by 11. The feature film was Guy Maddin's 'My Winnipeg'. I thought I should see it, given some of my comments in last year's CFL Pick 'Em. Edmonton by 7. The film is, in essence, a homage to the city he grew up in. Winnipeg by 10. However, it still looks and sounds like a frozen shithole. Sorry, guys. Saskatchewan by 15.

Tough week. I never thought I would see BC and Winnipeg battling to be the team not to go 0-3 to start the season; Montreal has bounced back nicely from the illness of Cavillo's wife; Edmonton keeps surprising you, but as a diehard Double Blue fan I gotta believe; and Lumsden single-handedly beat the Argo's last week, but I dont know if he's enough to beat the Grey Cup champs... Montreal by 9 Toronto by 5 Winnipeg by 6 Saskatchewan by 12 I think if I regret one of these it will be the Toronto/Edmonton pick. But as I said - you gotta believe in the Argo's...

I come here simply for owlhouse's picks. Not that there's anything wrong with the CFL pick 'em! Good stuff every week. Oh, and not that there's anything wrong with Winnipeg, either...still miss the Jets...well, not really but I do miss the Nordiques. Oh, well, good luck.

Oooh ... the Stamps need to rebound after takin' it on the chin in Edmonton. Yes, they're on the road and the Als are smokin' hot ... but I think they might be able to squeek one out in la belle province ... Stamps by 5. Esks have to have some confidence after that gutsy performance last week. Toronto ... they're fallible. EE by 8. Lions are gonna be hell-bent for leather ... and the Bombers just might be ripe for the pickin' ... BC by 18. Saskatchewan has the two dirtiest wins of the CFL season so far ... they do not deserve to be 2-0 ... and the Tabbies can be dangerous ... depends on who shows up. But I'll give this to the home squad to keep it interesting ... TiCats by 7. Oh, and watch out folks ... the basement will not hold me for long!!!

Dammit. Thursday night football. Shit. According to Matt Dunigan (in his autobiography Goin' Deep), it was not embracing Thursday night football that ultimately led to the failure of the US expansion in the mid-90s. Ironically, today it is this Thursday night scheduling that pisses of both SpoFi Pick 'Em players AND CFL fans who have a hard time gettin' to and home from an 8 o'clock Thursday night start. The rationale, according to league and team officials, was that this way people could still head to the cabin/cottage for the weekend. ??? Guess that's why only 31,000 showed up in Edmonton last night, hey? If anyone can figure this one out, do let me know.

I think NoMich needs a weekend at the cottage.
