Giving to a good cause: In support of Fahmarr McElrathbey and his brother Ray Ray, we're trying to raise $100 to send the trust fund. If you'd like to help, you can send funds to me via my PayPal account. When we reach $100, we'll send it off! Thanks for your help, whatever the amount!

I had NO clue what the hell you were going on about, fraze. I had to Google that name. I thought you were drunk or something. Some background may help others decide whether to contribute. My family are all Gamecock's fans though, so I can't help you. ;) Seriously, good on you for doing this, but I am tapped as they say.

The DropCash page officially works. Fraze, let me know if you want me to make your donation for you. Thanks for doing this, by the way.

Worked great for me, fraze. Thanks for helping. That said, is it just me or does $100 seem like an awfully low hurdle? I think we could, collectively, do some bit more than that. Also, sorry for setting an odd amount with the .90cents, but I figured ten cents x my user number was a nice way to do this. I encourage all of you to do the same, especially the 15kers. Also, nota bene: Debit and Credit cards are accepted, so you don't have to have a PayPal account to participate. This is b/c Fraze has an upgraded PayPal account. So technically, I think you could contribute to yourself (and maybe do a cash advance from a credit card without the penalty if you find yourself in a pinch).

Three hours in and we're 65% of the way in. During game 7 of the NLCS. If you've the option, fraze, you may consider bumping it up.

Looks like it's over limit and won't allow more until it's increased? Good problem to have and a terrific idea, fraze.

Yeah, can it be bumped up? Or restarted?

Guys, I've emailed Andre Torrez, the creator of DropCash, for further instruction on whether we have to restart the page or if I can bump the goal. His blog on DropCash, however, hasn't been touched in more than a year, so if I haven't heard back from him by this afternoon, I'll start another goal page and send the money roundabout to someone and have them fire it back to me. I set the goal that low because I thought I would be able to raise the goal if we hit it quickly. Better to reach $100 than flounder trying for $500. I'll keep you posted!

Doesn't look like the contribute option is there anymore, maybe just make another one for an additional 100? Great job on this.

Folks, Andre at DropCash has moved the target to $500 for us, meaning we're now 22% of the way there. I'm going to add an extra little incentive. We recently had Jean Beliveau in for a public signing at my store. For everyone making a donation of $1 or more, I'll include you in a drawing for an autographed Beliveau 8x10 collage which isn't widely available. These are gorgeous and worth around $50. Good luck and keep those contributions coming!

It would be nice to see a tally of how many SpoFites gave when we are done.

I'd like to post a list on the DropCash page as we go along, but I don't know everyone's handle. PayPal gives me only your real names, and I'm not sure whether you want them posted or not. If you've sent a donation and don't see your name on the list, just drop me an email at grabagamer AT gmail DOT com and I'll be glad to put it up. By the way, I'm just going to add my $10 donation at the end to the cashier's check I draw. I'm also not eligible for the drawing, damn it.

Thanks for setting this up fraz. I'm not sure we'll get to 500, but it's worth a try. I just added a little to get us over half way. All down hill from here, right?

We're at 52% now. That's very cool.

Hmm, can we change the goal to 300?
posted by justgary at 01:09 PM on October 26, 2006
I'm not giving up yet, Gary. I think if we bump this back up to the top somehow, maybe we can drum up a little bit more cash. I plan to close the DropCash page on Nov. 15 and we'll send the money then, whether we've reached our goal or not. I'll also post a copy of the cashier's check here and announce the winner of the Jean Beliveau autograph.

I believe the DropCash page for our campaign is set up properly. I'll see if I can find a way to put any other information in here, but I think you can check back and keep tabs on how far we've progressed. I checked out fundable.org, but they take 7% of the final tally, which I think sucks ass. I tried kicking in the first $10, but I can't pay myself! I'll have to send the money to someone else's account and have them donate it. Let's go, guys!
