Fantasy Hockey Update: 2 weeks until the season ends. Everybody thought it was over, but it seems we have a race at the top, in the end. Current standings are here, trash talk is inside. previous standings, previous thread
Yeah, I suck at these fantasy sport things. I don't know why I keep doing them.

Headin' for a top five finish! Look out Candians, here I come! Well, one of you should look out, anyway.

Big hit to grum - Datsyuk's out for 10 days. But it'll come down to the goalies deciding this one for me. No more Spezza, Straka, Kovolchuk or Zetterberg propping me up. I also only have 4 games of the eternally hot Dany Heatley left. Then it's nothing but defencemen and (sigh) terrible goaltenders. (you know, you pick up a Tellqvist at precisely the right time and JS fucking Aubin takes his starting spot.) The good news is my D is all from winning teams (hello PIMs and +/-) and my leads in goals, assists, and PPP are safe. I also can't get much worse in GAA. I could conceivably still lose points in wins and saves, though. And as always SHP is the wildcard (man if I could just get another couple of those - it's all gravy). Also - grum won't move in assists and is closer to losing points in goals, than getting more. And don't discount the Puckwits and Bagskates - they've still got some firepower brewing. 2-4 is tighter than 1-2. My hope is you guys jockey for position with each other. However - I am exceedingly nervous. Grum has managed his team with excellence and has plenty of games left to make moves with. So I can't drop any of my guys - he can use them.

However - I am exceedingly nervous. Grum has managed his team with excellence and has plenty of games left to make moves with. So I can't drop any of my guys - he can use them. I'm stuck in a situation here. I only have 2 games left for my centremen (Datsyuk, Morrison, Savard), so I'll be done with them by Friday (Savard twice, I think). Now, the smart move would be to dump my centremen back into the pool right away and pick up some extra LW/RW/D and max those out. However, it's a bit of an ethics situation since I'd be dropping good players back into the pool to pick up middling players. My hope would be that everyone else in the league would scoop them up and improve their teams. Why is that a good thing for me? Because if I can't pass Weedy in the categories, it's in my best interest for OTHER people to pass him in the standings (and therefore bringing his team closer to mine, instead of mine moving up). If I don't finish first, I don't care where I finish in the standings, so if someone else passes me and I finish in 3rd as a result of my maneuver, then I'm not really that heartbroken. So I'm going to think about this for a couple of more days before I decide what to do.

I think you should do it. You have a three-peat to protect. That and I don't think those guys are going to take any points away from my goals, assists and PPPs. I am insermountable in all those. Nope - my losing is reliant on PIMs, SHPs, wins and saves. Since none of those guys is particularly fiesty (or much of a penalty killer) I feel (relatively) safe. But anything could happen...

If youre dropping good players you can't use to get middling players you can use, and there's a chance they can help you on other teams, then I don't see an ethical problem there at all. I'm going to max out almost everywhere except in goal at this point, so I have very little wiggle room, but you should totally go on and reload. I had Brent Johnson's 46-save shutout on the weekend, and I'm quite sure there was a very good reason I didn't play him that night. I think I was just having 'Nam flashbacks or something. Either way, no more Jagermeister until the offseason. But yeah, I know I'm at the crossroads, and I believe I'm sinking down.

I am just aiming to be in the top 10. Though I think last time the update went it just showed that I was beating people that were not really participating.

No love for Los Colecos. You'll live to regret this. Plenty o' love for Los Colecos - my bad - now go out there and kick some second through fourth ass. I feel like the Leafs in the third period ahead by one goal: tenuous at best.

stupid TX-residing ass Ufez Jones, who lost 8 points and fell 3 positions Hey! I resemble that remark. But yeah, Aebischer's trade from Colorado to the Bench and Tim Thomas's post-Olympic meltdown fucked me harder than a Georgian* tranny on meth. I had fun, though. *I'll leave it up to you, the reader, as to which Georgia I'm referring to.

I'm up to third this morning, with 132 points, 6.5 behind Weedy. I'm a believer. Budaj, Toskala and Aubin form the best goaltending trio in the league, yes sir. Just a month ago I was hovering around 9th position with a 100 points. My January 3 prediction is coming to tuition:
Garfield, like all of the top 10 managers, is wildly overshooting his maximum games played per position. I, on the other hand, have kept a pretty good balance in this regard, and will blow past all of you when the time comes. The time is now. The action is go.

Moving up: The_Black_Hand (+7.5pts, +4pos), gspm (+10.5pts, +2pos) and yours truly (+11pts, +1pos). Moving down: chicobangs (-11.5pts, -3pos), NoMich (-7.5pts, -2pos) and stupid TX-residing ass Ufez Jones, who lost 8 points and fell 3 positions. On a general note, order is finally restored, with Canadians holding the top 4 spots. On a personal note, I'm kicking ass, and starting to believe I still have a chance at winning the damn thing (to hell with jinxing it!). A prudently optimistic projection puts me at 135 points by season end, which could be enough for victory. Never give up, never give up.
