2004 MLB Playoff Predictions (Round 1):
Okay, time for everyone's wild-ass guesses.
Sure, I'll have a go at it...even though my stupid stRangers faded off at the end of the season... Sadly, I'll take the Yanks in 5. God and George won't let 'em lose in a divisional series. Boston over Anaheim in 5. The Angels made postseason by playing slightly better than two fading teams. Nothing they have done has impressed me. Plus, Selig would kill a nun to have another NY/Bos ALCS. The Cards in 4. They're just that good. Astros in 4. Garner has turned this team around in an incredible fashion. It won't stop until they hit up the Busch.

NYY vs Minnesota: Just so I can see the Dodgers beat the Yanks in the WS. NY in 5 Anaheim vs Boston: The Angels are going to be Pedro's daddy. Angels in 4 St.Louis vs Los Angeles: Lima time! LA in 4 Atlanta vs Houston: I loathe the Braves. Plus the Astros are on a roll. Houston in 5

Yanks over Twins in 5. Because the Twins are a small market team and need a new taxpayer funded stadium to be competitive. Angels over Red Sox in 5. Because Theo's **** doesn't work in the playoffs. Cardinals over Dodgers in 4. Because Red mean Go?!?!? Braves over Astros in 5. Because the Stros spent all their juju getting the WC, and they've never won a postseason series EVAR so why start now?

Minnesota over New York in 4. Santana will win Game 1 and Game 4. Red Sox over Anaheim in 5. They're both offensive juggernauts, but I have to believe Boston's pitching will make the difference (Pedro will work things out). St. Louis over Los Angeles in 4. The Cardinals will win the World Series. Houston over Atlanta in 5. The Braves always get to the playoffs, but that's all they've got. Clemens-Oswalt is as tough a 1-2 as there is in these playoffs.

Minnesota over New York in 4. Santana wins two games, someone else picks up one inbetween those two. St. Louis over LA in 3. Look, it's a juggernaut. Atlanta over Houston in 5. I'd like to see Clemens pitch in Fenway one last time, but I don't think it's happening here. Boston over... Anaheim over... damn it... Boston over Anaheim in 4. Pedro can lose. Schilling won't. Arroyo is on the cusp of stardom. Wakefield comes through in game four. I hope.

Twins in 4. Pitching pitching pitching. Red Sox in 5. See above, although the difference between Anaheim and Boston's starting rotation isn't as gaping. Look for Schilling to steal a game. St. Louis in 3. That's right, I said 3. Atlanta in 5. It won't be a breeze, though. You'll see lots of extra innings.

NYY in 4. They're going to hand Santana a loss in game 1 and crush the spirit of the Twins. Anaheim in 5. Boston's only going to be able to toss Schilling twice, unfortunately. St. Louis in 4. Too good to lose first round. Atlanta in 4. Odalis is too hard luck, Weaver is not a pressure pitcher and Lima is...unreliable at the best of times.

Ack, sorry, missed the last matchup. Houston in 5. Now that they're not playing St. Louis in my head, their rotation will stand up over Atlanta's.

Twinkies in 4. It's The Johann Santana show! That and Leiber starting Game 2 helps too. That's a 2-0 cushion. BoSox in 4. Better staff and pen and offense. Astros in 5. That squad is on a roll, and about due for a platoff series win. My upset special: Dodgers in 5. The loss of Carpenter really hurts a suspect staff. This Dodgers team reminds me a lot of the '88 squad. You look at them and wonder how the hell they got here, but they pull it off somehow. Just ask LaRussa :) Steve Finley will be the Gibson of this series while the "Bash Triplets" are stymied.

Okay! Boston in 4 - Angels are not better in any category except running. I don't care how deep your starting rotation is, it doesn't have to be now. NY in 5 - because the Sox need to have the dragon show up to slay it. Santana makes this fun and Radke is good - but the Twins really are the guys who slap themselves and call the Yankees daddy. 'Stros in 4 - Oswalt and Clemens. They could go the whole way. Beltran is the real deal and it ain't like he's alone in that lineup. Cards in 4 - No way Lima and Peres can keep the monsters from feeding. And as I write this it's already 7-0. Or, alas, again I know not of what I speak.

NYY vs Minnesota: Gotta go with the pitching in this series. Min in 5 Anaheim vs Boston: Again, gotta go with the pitching in this series. Boston in 4 St.Louis vs Los Angeles: The Cardinals look unstoppable. For now. St.Louis in 4 Atlanta vs Houston: Houston looks like a team on a roll, and if Clemens/Oswalt stay healthy... Houston in 5
