Hidden: Ok. I swear I am not MeTa-Bitching. He's a new guy, so he probably just doesn't know, so maybe by discussing it, we can help him (and others) out. [more inside]

I appreciate the amazing enthusiasm and effort, but this is just overload. I mean, there are only 24 hours in a day! I didn't want to destroy his entire thread by chatting it up there, so... here I am.

oh, it's just the google string searches i am talking about. again, i hope i am not coming off as a bitch. i figure someone else is thinking the same way and if i am wrong, just shoot me.

jgirl, the google lists were a bit much, eh?. other than that I don't really have any complaints...and he is a self admitted protocol newbie. hopefully he'll read this, take note, and not be discouraged. I thought his approach was great.

posted by garfield at 05:15 PM on November 11, 2003

just the google strings. the rest was rad.

Agreed, JG. I'm betting we won't be dicks about it, and the new guy will realize that posting (or reading) at SpoFi shouldn't be labor-intensive. Gotta admire the work that went into that, though. Hopefully, he finds his way here, and recognizes that we appreciate new POSTERS. On preview, edited to avoid the obvious but unavoidable joke about appreciating new MEMBERS.

After about the third link I got lost and wandered aimlessly around the Internet for about an hour before I finally found my way back. By then I was too tired to post anything. Maybe it's just my short attention span, but when I see all those links I tend to fade away. Anyway, what was the question?

Hm. Point taken jerseygirl. That's what I get for trying to introduce a new meme. I'll try to keep it a little less ludicrous in the future. But I'm glad the rest was rad.
I should warn in advance that I'm a bit of a labor intensive type. But then, it IS "hyper text" isn't it? C'mon! Get PoMo!

Fair enough, Forks. By the way, I believe it's spelled "ludacris". Learn to spell, new guy. All kidding aside, what's with the nickname?

posted by Samsonov14 at 05:52 PM on November 11, 2003

Minus the google stuff it's a winner. Maybe he came here via MeFi. *Considers welcoming our multiple linking overlords, but refrains*

posted by squealy at 05:54 PM on November 11, 2003

Did somebody say Ludacris? The story of my nick is a long and uninteresting one, best told over some chicken 'n' beer. Suffice it to say, it's been with me for awhile. And yeah, I'm a would be MeFi'er. They wouldn't let me in their sandbox so you guys get stuck with me. I promise not to make it without the sexy.

posted by forksclovetofu at 06:07 PM on November 11, 2003

why wouldnt they let you in?

posted by jerseygirl at 06:25 PM on November 11, 2003

um, they're not letting anyone in right now. See here for info.

posted by forksclovetofu at 06:39 PM on November 11, 2003

wtf? The person put the bulk of the links inside the story so I don't see a problem. Please don't bring the bullshit whining from Metafilter here.

posted by jbou at 06:41 PM on November 11, 2003

Say, jbou? It's true that I ordered the lobster and they brought me the steak, but maybe you didn't hear me tell the server that it was okay and that i didn't mind waiting? Nobody is gonna hurt anybody. We're all gonna be like three little Fonzie's here. And what's Fonzie like?

posted by forksclovetofu at 06:55 PM on November 11, 2003

jbou, you must have missed the point. it wasnt the quantity of the links per se, it was -- you know? ah fuck it. there's no love lost between us. you'd argue with me if i told you today was tuesday. but fork? i appreciate you being cool. welcome to the spofi family. that's sucky about the closed doors on MeFi. I was under the impression they had opened them up for good a while back. if i could remember my original mefi account username, i'd give it to you.

Hopefully, he finds his way here, and recognizes that we appreciate new POSTERS. On preview, edited to avoid the obvious but unavoidable joke about appreciating new MEMBERS. I love it. You realized that the original word usage in your post may be construed as a dick joke, but you went ahead and still made one. Pure freakin' comedy genius. Point taken jerseygirl. Ooh..watch it, fork: our fair jerseygirl doesn't want her name besmirched by the forthcoming Bennifer movie of the same name (which is the first result of your linked google search of 'jersey+girl').

Oh jerseygirl, that's almost grounds for a name change.

Are we running a sweep on how long it takes for someone to get mortally insulted on this thread and threaten to leave forever?

Metafilter being "closed" to new memebership is a myth. Someone just joined yesterday. You just have to know someone I guess. Like maybe this guy. Heck, I'd like in if only to get the cookie to keep track of comments in threads.

posted by gspm at 03:02 AM on November 12, 2003

That guy only got in because his site was linked as a front page post. Just saying.

This thread was killed because: you got your etiquette in my peanut butter.

And the same goes for the last ten users that have joined since the middle of September? Just sayin'. I don't care too much. As Groucho put it: I'd never join a club that would have me as a member. And FB it looks like the bookies have closed shop on your bet if this thread has moved to Schrödinger's quantum ether of posts that both simultaneously exist and do not exist.
