In the it-was-only-a-matter-of-time department, Miguel Cardoso is thinking out loud about SportsFilter on MetaTalk.

... and I'm bringing it up because an empty Locker Room looks freaky.

Yeah really...I demand that you bring back etiquette policing to the locker room. I want to see some towel snapping and bitch slapping. I like bitch slapping. Actually, I just like saying bitch slapping... I'll move along now...

In that thread, vacapinta said: I'll be leaving SF once the worldcup is over - It'll be interesting to see if there is an exodus. Or is there any chance of a "came for the World Cup, stayed for the [insert sterling SportsFilter quality]" situation?

Also, in that thread, iconomy and jerseygirl discussed the presence of women on SportsFilter, and I decided, in fairness of balancing out the occasional Kournikova-esque link, to offer this to the women (and men...not that there's anything wrong with that).

It will be interesting to see what happens after the world cup, given the dominace of sports that can only be of interest to those living in North America. Do you think I could interest anyone in a discussion on cricket?

Came before the world cup, stayed for the towel slapping.

Cricket? Shouldn't that be on InsectFilter?

I just want to say that I love the fact that there's a navel gazing category. And thanks for a second go at that pic.

Fat Buddha: Not me mate. For us, the English Premiership season will be starting in a couple of months. Not that Wolverhampton fans will have any interest in that...

miguel said "came." heh heh. you ppl realize the nfl training camps are less than a month away, rite?

Beefcake alert, ladies. No shirtless pics, unfortunately, and *I* take issue with the exclusion of Cannavaro & Zidane/inclusion of Mohawk Poster Boy Beckham, but still not a bad droolfest. Nesta. Yum.

hmmm... so close to start of college/NFL season.

Beckham might look fine in the picture linked by romakimmy above, but look again. Isn't he flipping the bird?

/OT msacheson, I've noticed a proclivity of UK residents to use the middle finger to point, instead of the index finger. Freaked me out the first few times...

Came for the sports, slogged through the WC -- I tried, I really tried to get into soccer, and failed. Now, it's time for Le Tour. And then a crazed mix of NFL, college football, and La Vuelta, which is already mixing things up with some interesting new ideas (scroll to the fourth headline on that page).

This is one of the nicer locker rooms I've been in, although I still plan to wear flip-flops in the shower. Athlete's foot is gross.

posted by iconomy at 02:17 PM on June 27, 2002

wow, iconomy posted in my future. How'd you do that?

posted by vacapinta at 03:15 PM on June 27, 2002

or, rather why are comments labeled PST, threads in the locker room labeled MST and threads in sportsfilter labeled CST?

posted by vacapinta at 03:20 PM on June 27, 2002

I have a question too - is there a list of categories somewhere? I click on "soccer" and see all the soccer links, but is there a page with all the categories listed (I can't post yet or I guess I would see them all in a drop down menu on the Add a Post page)? What are the categories?

posted by iconomy at 06:17 PM on June 27, 2002

Nevermind. football baseball hockey tennis golf olympics soccer boxing extreme other culture general

posted by iconomy at 06:59 PM on June 27, 2002

What, no motorsports category?

posted by dg at 08:24 PM on June 27, 2002

Motorsports a sport? Heh.

posted by adampsyche at 02:05 PM on July 02, 2002

"Other" is not a sport either ;-) A catch-all category for motorsports would be useful, IMHO, in the same way that extreme sports are grouped under "extreme".

posted by dg at 11:05 PM on July 02, 2002

dg: Be careful what you ask for, dg. With the US-centric bias round here, you'll probably get the Godawful 'autosports' category.

posted by salmacis at 04:22 AM on July 03, 2002

US-centric? I hadn't noticed ;-). I guess that the separation of "football" and "soccer" into different categories should have tipped me off huh?

posted by dg at 04:55 PM on July 03, 2002

US Centric? What about the constant World Cup posts dominating SportsFilter for the last month?

posted by insomnyuk at 09:44 PM on July 03, 2002

While the category 'football' is used to mean American football, this is clearly a US-centric site.

posted by salmacis at 05:57 AM on July 04, 2002

Given that the majority of participants here are US-based (I assume), that is probably fair. We need to gang up and plot a coup d'état - have the Rest Of The World take over.
