Best in the world.

If anyone finds good non-US coverage (apart from the BBC) could you post a link? Austrian articles translated into English would be perfect... (not that I want to, y'know, gloat)

Who was your favorite player growing up?

T-Rex: Kent Hrbek. For lifting one of the Braves right off first base if nothing else. And getting away with it, with a cheek full of chew, looking like a totally badass plumber. What a role model.

Bill Bitter

Yeah, cut Buckner some slack. Hopefully, in time, he'll be able to enjoy this win, but damn, does he have to snap to attention and be Pesky II to make this perfect for everyone? The man doesn't define himself by that game, and shouldn't.

Yanks v. Sox Game 6.

I thought it was a pretty unobtrusive display of belief. Plus this was awesome: "We just did something that's never been done before. There's no reason we can't do it again tomorrow."

Four years ago, Rulon Garder beat the greatest Greco-Roman wrestler of all time

This was basically an excuse to post that link to Karelin's site. The English isn't perfect, but you get the sense of a proud, thoughtful man dealing with a brilliant career that ended in a totally unexpected defeat. The attitude of my relatives, friends, colleagues, ordinary people who met me only through Internet, became different, but not negative, just more careful. Hundreds letters came on my e-mail address, and no letters contain a reproach, only words: " Sasha, you are the best no matter what! ". And, there were letters both from our compatriots and Americans. I remember one girl sent me a drawing of a kitten as a talisman for good future. In the beginning, the words "no matter what" just killed me, but time is the best doctor.

Puerto Rico 92, U.S. 73

And tieguy, I think it's a bit much to say you could win easily, if only the right team was picked. The rest of the world is clearly getting better, but a team with the NBA's best - Shaq, Kobe, KG, T-Mac, Tim Duncan etc - would trounce anyone on the planet. Sorry. Still, it's up to the US team to prove that on the court. Right now we aren't even second-best in the world. We didn't pick the right players. We didn't practice enough. This is the arrogant USA getting its comeuppance in microcosm.

He said it once, he said it twice.

No contest. USA 2004 would destroy that squad. Melo, Lebron, Wade, Iverson, Duncan? I mean, come on.

Armstrong punishes a personal enemy

Still, how the hell can Lance justify this? How did pulling this one guy back benefit the peleton?

The Tour is long and hard. Riders aren't expected to try to win every stage: they marshal their energy and ride strategically.

"Why Kevin Garnett will lose Game 7"

Can we talk less about why Webber sucks and more about how KG is the Kwisatz Haderach? I mean, seriously, he's done more for Minnesota than anyone since Prince.
