Everytime it seemed like the beginikng of a blowout, Philly came right back.
In game one Niemi shut down Philly in the third period. Philly owned the ice but Niemi hung tough (despite shite play earlier in the game) If Leighton came up with one or two big stops early on in game 1 Philly would have taken that game. Niemi came up big in the latter half of the third and Chicago won. Game two Niemi stops 15 shots in the third period to hang onto a one goal lead and take a 2-0 lead.
I am not saying Toews doesn't deserve the Conn Smyth I just think Niemi out played Leighton by make critical saves when he needed to as opposed to Leighton who got chased from the net twice in the series.

I see your point about Niemi's numbers but it just seemed like when Chicago needed a big stop he came up whereas Leighton was so easily flustered he basically cost Philly the series.

Hats off to the Hawks, they had a hell of a playoffs. Not trying to take anything away from Toews but Niemi was the difference maker in the finals. He may have let up a softie here and there but he didn't get as rattled as Leighton and was able to bounce right back.
On a complete side note, why is Toews pronounced Taves?

I have to admit I was a doubting Thomas especially after going down 3-0 before the game was 15 minutes old. Coming back from a 3 goal deficit would take true grit luckily Philly was chock full of that tonight.

yes, you can blame WWE for killing people.
Working for the WWE is a privilege not a right. Anybody can walk at anytime. What about the early 90's when Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels were at the top of the wrestling? WWE focused on smaller talent and wrestlers still used steroids. This is a complex issue and making VKM the bad guy is just a way to simplify the problem. but I think it inspires some ridicule by maintaining the pretense that it isn't staged. It's reality TV in tights.
All you need is some willing suspension of disbelieve, its more like going to the movies then it is like going to a boxing match.

No evidence was ever found that Benoit used the Crippler Crossface to murder his child.
From what I understand the ME report showed bruising on Daniel's wrist and throat that would be consistent with the Crippler Crossface. I got this information from 2 books, one is by Matthew Randazzo V called Ring of Hell and the other was Benoit by Eric Cohen. Both books were crap but I assume the hard facts must at least be true.

I am sure rampant drug abuse in pro wrestling leads to some of the violent behavior perpetrated by these athletes but I also wonder how much of is them buying their own press. Beniot was billed as the Crippler and the Rabid Wolverine and an all around bad mother fucker, fans tended to treat him with awe and spoke his name in hushed tones. His co-workers talked about his Houdini act where he would just shut down and go into that stone faced killer mode when ever anything stressful happened. Its got to be kind of hard to turn that off and go home to dinner with the wife and then have to take out the trash. Benoit choked his own kid to death using his finishing move, I find that pretty fucked up.
I have watched Angel since he has come in the WWF (thats how long ago it was) when he was just a comedy act. Kurt had great comedic timing and probably could have transitioned the same way Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson did. Instead he stayed in this fucked up business that has such a high body count. Angel looks he could be another name on the "list" but isn't so far gone that he can't get out and pull his shit together. I feel like he is at a crossroads and could go either way. If I were him I would get out because he obviously can't handle working in this industry.
I don't think pro-wrestling or WWE kills these people. I do think that life on the road and the traveling gypsy lifestyle could lead to drug abuse, similar to rock stars touring on the road and the perils they face. No one wants to talk about the Chris Jerichos and the Ric Flairs and Lance Storms and the Terry Funks and Tommy Dreamers and Bret Harts who have been very successful in the business and haven't died of overdoses or murdered family members. They made choices while on the road and some may have lost families (Hart and Flair where notorious "ladies men") to divorce but they all got out alive while working for the same guy Angel and Benoit and Andrew "Test" Martin were. These men should be held responsible for their own actions.
If it isn't obvious I am a HUGE pro-wrestling fan who is reluctant to post on this site because of comments like this: You mean you actually watch for the stuff that they call 'wrestling" where the outcome is predetermined? How can you watch movies, you know the ending already written. Yeah I like the wrestling. Some of the backstage stuff is funny or helps build a rivalry but sometimes it also sucks. I like the athleticism and drama in a predetermined match unlike a boxing match that ends in 2 rounds or a 9 second MMA fight. That's what pro wrestling provides that MMA and boxing don't, a guaranteed competitive match. I like MMA and boxing I also like WWE and ROH is that so hard to believe? Pro wrestling is also way more interactive. Bret Hart and Rob Van Dam and the Dudley Boys and Mick Foley have taken more time out of their day to bullshit with me and sign autographs than any member of the Yankees, Knicks or Jets.
Sorry this post is all over the place I just feel pretty passionately about this topic and I really don't think Sportsfilter is the place to discuss it but I just can't help myself.

Now we presume that MLB is so arrogant as to continue with these patterns of behavior.
I'm with you on this one. MLB did it once, got nailed, and is going to do it again? I don't buy that one bit. Just because Bonds dosen't have job dosen't mean all the MLB GM's and owners got together and decided to keep him out of the game. Is it possible that every team knows of his downsides (which have been written about ad nauseum) and the fact that he is 45 and hasn't played since 2007. Perhaps he wasn't signed at the start of the '08 season because he would have been in his mid 40's and was brought up on on perjury charges. I don't know how much of his salary would have to be paid by whatever MLB signed him if he was going to miss an extended period of time due to these charges. I am not so naive as to believe collusion doesn't happen but I like to examine all possibilities before jumping to the "worst case" one.
As far as the topic of this post:
I am as far from a Red Sox fan as you can be, but before I go and begin damning the two best players on a team that was able to pull off one of the greatest comebacks in MLB history I think I need more than just "allegedly these two chaps were on a list of guys who tested positive for steroids" of course all this info is from un-named lawyers working on the case who shouldn't be releasing this information anyway. They just failed the test because steroids were present in there system but is it possible that a few of these 100+ players had a prescription at the time of the test? How high were the levels, were they at a therapeutic level? Again several people are just rushing to assume the worst case scenario.
I admit I was turned off to baseball when al this nonsense came out. Part of it was my own bleak out look on MLB as a whole (oh how I yearn for the days when the Yankees payroll and luxury tax were the hot button items of the day) the other part was what was being spun the media. Let's face the people who have the most to gain from steroid abuse are the people who write and report on MLB. Narcing out possible steroid users makes for much more entertaining news than just rattling off some scores and stats. While several reporters may feign disgust at the actions of these players I am sure some part of them does a happy dance.

I agree that Vick has served his debt to society but I am not so sure he could be considered rehabilitated. If he went to prison and just sat his entire time while their I fail to see how that helps him. In my opinion what Vick did are the actions of a sociopath. All sorts of antisocial behavior starts with animal torture and animal killings, so if he didn't receive any kind of in depth psychological help than I would consider him far from rehabilitated. I know that this is the internet so I feel I should clarify, Vick is not the next Charles Manson but his actions should be cause for concern. I hope he received more treatment than just being locked in a cage while he was in prison.
By the letter of the law Vick served his debt and if that is enough for the NFL to reinstate him they every right to.

If you get caught drunk driver I believe you should get another chance but as a repeat offender and to kill someone in the process should get you a pretty hefty jail sentence. Jail is a pretty awful place so I can't imagine how killing this guy would be right or better than the punishment he will probably get. This has to at least be DWI plus 3 counts of vehicular manslaughter (which can be a felony if the driver is intoxicated)
Everyone makes mistakes and Gallo made his already and he really fucked up his second chance. Hopefully he will learn his lesson if he survives what I hope is a lengthy jail sentence.

Two, there's a difference between not having as bperk called it "the most up-to-date insurance card" and not having proof of insurance. She could not prove that she had insurance.
Not to nitpick here but there is no difference. The cop needs to know she HAS insurance not HAD insurance. If she can't find her card or finds a card that expired on 3/26/09 and its 3/27/09 than she has no proof of insurance. Both constitute a failure to produce proof of insurance and is not a serious what so ever (in NY at least) provided you can submit proof of coverage for the day the ticket was issued. You in no way have to be detained for such an infraction. I worked for the insurance company with a reptile mascot for a number of years and handled thousands of this situations, it is not serious at all.
Again things maybe different in NY but from my personal experience a cop can give you several tickets in one shot (my experience was for a seatbelt, tail light, expired registration, expired insurance card) I was told to step out of my car and the State Trooper called a tow truck. The Trooper told me I could take a ride with the tow and call a friend but I could not get the car until I went to court or the DMV and settled my registration issues. I was so livid I told the tow guy to fuck off and was left by an NY State Trooper on the side of the Meadowbrook State Parkway on Long Island. In fact so serious were these 4 violations that all I ended up paying was an $80 seatbelt ticket, the other 3 were thrown when I mailed in my insurance card, proof I fixed my light (which a Nassau County cop didn't even bother to look at he just signed the paperwork and took my word) and current registration. I was able to retrieve my car on Monday (I got nailed on a Saturday) after going to the DMV and getting my updated window sticker for the registration I ain't buying this 5 tickets = jail argument.
At the end of the day the officer in the Moats case exercised poor judgment and when you are in a job like that poor judgment can get innocent people hurt or cast an extremely negative image for your PD, I am sure his fellow officers are pissed because they know they will be under a microscope now.

I have to seriously call into question the actions of the staff at Friendship Village. From the MinnPost article it was stated that he was involved an several alleged incidents before this one. The staff had to have known he posed a threat to other patients.
I know its funny to shit on wrestling and make jokes about Sleeper Holds and what not but Gagne did illegitimately try to choke Gutttmann out once before this. He was allowed back into the community after this incident but no mention is made as to how his level care was changed after this. In my mind the blame can fall squarely on the shoulders of the Friendship Village management.

This is gonna be a long so if there is a point to this novel of a post its that we need to stop being so reactionary about this topic because it us way more complicated than steroids=wrong. I have refrained from posting on this topic for a long time because I felt that there were only a few players using and the ones that had so much incriminating evidence pointing towards them were given a free pass (until they possibly lied in front of Congress) This topic is so all over the place so so is my comment.
I fail to see how the story of one baseball player (even of the caliber of Alex Rodriguez) is breaking news. I believe that there were 104 and other players who tested positive. If you believe that only those players are the ones using you have about 1 in 12 using steroids. I am basing this off of a 40 man roster per team they percentage would obviously get higher if you just went the 25 man roster. If you live in the real and believe that more than those 104 use who knows how high that percentage can go. Why they haven't looked into pitchers using I'll never understand, I believe that they would have more to gain from steroids. To me the real story is that 104 players tested positive, how many more have or will if tougher testing policies are implemented.
I under stand why some people are upset about this. No one wants to see the sport they have played and enjoyed since childhood tainted with steroids, HGH or whatever else they use to gain an edge (which I personally believe is a small one) I still believe that the cream of the crop (like the Bondses and Rodrigi, and Clemens and McGuire) will always be amazing players and the PEDs just gave them that little extra push to take them from all time greats to Legendary. All this nonsense about changing records or what will happen if A-Rod passes Bonds is just foolish, who knows how many pitchers they hit home runs off of were on the gas? Like it or not this is a part of the game now. All you are doing by wondering who's on it and who isn't is just going to ruin your enjoyment of the game.
Back in 2004 I was pretty upset with the state of baseball. I felt someone like Bonds who had clout because he was pulling in so much more revenue could use PEDs and the MLB officials would just turn a blind towards. Here in 2009 it is more apparent that PEDs are much more widespread that was initially thought. I think baseball is unfairly singled out because this is a problem that transcends baseball and effects all areas of sports.
Morally I have a hard time understanding how to feel all about this. I know steroids are illegal but I am a firm believer in "my body my choice" No matter how harmful something is for you no one has a right to say what you are doing is illegal. My problem arises when the MLB decides to say what drugs or supplements use and if you brake our rules we can fine, suspend or terminate you. Where do their rights as an employer end when it comes to what you put into your body? Why should something that improves your performance be viewed as a bad thing even when it has its side effects? If there was a drug that made computer programmers program faster or better but had side effects would Computer Associates or Microsoft not want their employees to take it even if it had potentially harmful side effects? So long as no one is being forced or coerced into something they don't want to take what is the problem with wanting to be the best in your particular field? Should I feel be bad about posting this long pointless comment with so many hypothetical situations that could never be answered?
