Rickroll the Mets!: In their final historic season at Shea your New York Mets are having a contest to select the song to be used all season during the 8th Inning Sing-A-Long. A Digg campaign is underway to write-in a certain song. voting ends noon on Monday April 7th, vote early, vote often!
They got my vote! Actually, I like this song and I get a chuckle every time I am rickroll'd on Fark. I have read (as I am sure others have) the Rick Astley is pretty cool about the whole rickroll phemon. He just hopes it doesn't embarrass his daughter.

I would LOVE it if they played this song at a baseball game between innings. It's better than the "Charge!" or "Clap clap clap-clap-clap" crap.

As long as it's use isn't going to send Astley off to Asia on a young boy sex tourist rampage a la Gary Glitter, I'm all for it. I actually love the idea of rickrolling so much, I'm going to send my financial advisor a link to a "fund" I'm interested in. And cast a vote, of course.

I couldn't get it to work. Maybe I shouldn't have used Jimmy Rollins' name and birthday to vote, oh well. I have been told I bear a striking resemblance to Rick Astley, which could be good or bad, I'm not sure. I'm just hoping that my Phillies have a repeat or better of last years pennant race. May they beat the Mets like rented mules. But if this thing helps me meet girls, God bless the Mets!

I'm afraid it might be mistaken for a digg and cause my untimely demise.

I'm with Grum, anything that isn't the MLB mandated cookie cutter crap would be nice. (I cringe everytime that "day-O" stupidity comes over the PA.) I had never heard of rickrolling before this. I think its pretty funny.

Even after winning the vote, the Mets still won't make it the song of choice for the 8th inning! Instead, there is going to be a runoff. Bastards!

From grum's link, I copied what appears to be the "Never Gonna Give You Up" lyrics:
We're no strangers to love You know the rules and so do I A full commitments what I'm thinking of You wouldn't get this from any other guy I just wanna tell you how I'm feeling Gotta make you understand * Never gonna give you up Never gonna let you down Never gonna run around and desert you Never gonna make you cry Never gonna say goodbye Never gonna tell a lie and hurt you We've know each other for so long Your heart's been aching But you're too shy to say it Inside we both know what's been going on We know the game and we're gonna play it And if you ask me how I'm feeling Don't tell me you're too blind to see (* repeat) Give you up. give you up Give you up, give you up Never gonna give Never gonna give, give you up Never gonna give Never gonna give, give you up I just wanna tell you how I'm feeling Gotta make you understand (* repeat 3 times)Actually looks appropriate for a sports song. Even better when sung by tens of thousands of fans. I expect the fans will do the right thing when they do the runoff. I expect the Mets will pick the lame option, but if they pick Rick, I might just become their best new fan.

Too bad. I agree that the song is as appropriate as any of the other choices.
