Photo #2 in the series is flat scary. Yes it is, very much so. I personally like the one of Randy Johnson pitching. It appears as his whole arm is just gone. The one of the kid Bull Racing is pretty crazy too. Thanks for the pics gary!

What is even more scary is I think she was really happy when that picture was taken! Something really good just happened. Now imagine when something bad happens, then that would be truely frightening.

Hey Kok, or imagine mixing her's with this guy's too! On the other hand, now that I look at it again perhaps its the earrings that made ol' Serena do the things she do! That will probably remain a mystery for ages to come.

It's very interesting that so many people think that the picture of Serena Williams is "scary", yet no one commented on the photo of Federer. Why is that, do you think? (on the photos: pratfalls aren't interesting sports photography IMO; a few tried to be too arty; otherwise a pretty good collection)

It's very interesting that so many people think that the picture of Serena Williams is "scary", yet no one commented on the photo of Federer. Why is that, do you think? Because Serena looks like she could take on a wild animal and win, while Federer looks like he's trying to crap a bowling ball. The emotions on Serena's face are furious, intimidating, victorious; the emotion on Federer's face appears to be pain, perhaps from explosive gas.

I just went and looked again, and you're right, TBH. Serena's is a fierce kind of "yee ha win for me" look; Roger's is a "wow this hurts" look.

Although I think SI is biased and out dated the photographers that they use are pretty darn good. I think pic#9 is a pretty awesome pic.

In those photographs that show the faces of the athletes close up, I am struck by the intensity, joy, anguish, or concentration depicted, depending on the situation. SI's writers may not always be the best, but there's no denying the excellence of their photographers' work. (Remind me never to be anywhere near Serena Williams when she is angry. Photo #2 in the series is flat scary.)
