In college I part-time coached a women's softball team (not the college one) and they wouldn't touch the stuff. They insisted that it tasted like.....ahem....urine. I never thought so.

Then again maybe they were more familiar with that particular taste then I was? I never asked.

Well, I guess 30+ years of drinking that crap finally destroyed his kidneys. Dr. Cade is still a legend in Gainesville, and his concoction has secured his family's financial status for a generation or more. God bless, Doc. And the orange flavor is frickin' awesome! Don't know why they even bothered making other flavors after that and lemon-lime.

I, for one, will miss rcade. Hey, now. Anyone remember Gatorgum? It was chemical-tastic.

Great flashback rcade. That was absolutely my favorite gum growing up. I had completely forgotten about it. Why, you could rot your teeth and quench your thirst at the same time!

Gatorgum was great in situations where you've got dry mouth but don't dare drink anything for fear of having to pee. Gatorade made me a hero once. I was on a backcountry trip and nearly everybody got food poisoning. All we had for water was iodized (filtration not an option), and my stash of gatorade powder was the only thing that kept us hydrated. I fell in love with the fruit punch flavor then, but TBH is right, orange was pretty damn good too. Lemon-lime tasted fine, I just couldn't look at it. RIP Dr. Cade, you got us through.

How many of you can remember the glass Gatorade bottles with the Professional Football Team helmets on the caps? I collected the whole set. It was the first thing I collected as I was about 5 or 6 at the time. That was back when I think the only flavor they had was the citrus one (lemon-lime?). Damn, that was a lot of Gatorade for a little kid to drink. The gum didn't quench my thirst, it just made my mouth water too much. I always thought that just wasn't the same.

So who is going to be the first to dump a cooler of Gatorade over his coffin at the funeral?
