The Hubcap Hurl, Bobbin' for Pig's Feet Fest, and Redneck Horseshoes... : It could only be the Redneck Games [YouTube].
This reminded me of the very funny Jeff Foxworthy routine about the 1996 Olympiad in Atlanta. He spoke of barbecuing over the Olympic Flame, Rednecks showing up with their shotguns ready for the release of the doves, etc. I wish I could readily come up with a link, but the LAN nazis here at work have blocked access to youtube and a number of other sites. Now if I can just get the appliance parts on the porch out of the way, I'll settle down with an RC and a Moon Pie.

I was thinking to myself that it was quite enjoyable reading the posts on the British Open thread, particularly the insights provided by JJ. It made me feel, once again, that I am truly part of a global community when I'm on SportsFilter. And then I came to this. Ah, my heart swells with pride when I think about the "butt cracks and hub caps" festivities that are so uniquely American. When I think about how the rest of the world views the U.S. as nothing but a land of slovenly, uneducated boobs, we can hold this event up as a shining example of our keen intellect and gaming prowess. Oh what heady times are these that American sport can be represented thus. Accompanied by our renewed demonstrated superiority in the consumption of Nathan's hot dogs, and we are truly living in rare days. To see that it was none other than JJ himself who has brought the communities attention to this "Otis Olympiad", well, what can I say? That Mac Davis is quite singer, 'aint he? Now, back ta' muh hog skins.
