First of all, I don't like you.: Former pro Tight End and Player Personnel Director Ken Herock prepares NFL draft prospects for the Combine without sprints, weights or even a ball.
Herock calls Giants Wide Receiver Tim Carter a success and Maurice Clarett "that little punk." >

I'm not too sure I like what Herock is doing here. OK, if there is a talented player who does not interview well, then having a charm school is a positive thing. Where I have my problem is with cases like Ron Davis. It sounds like all Herock is doing with these types is to create football versions of Eddie Haskell.

Thanks for the link (and the bugmenot). The Ron Davis story made the piece and made Herock more interesting than just another guy making money off the athletic process.

I get the sense Herock is also doing this as a way to stay in football and as a way to help out potential draftees. It makes you wonder how many guys have torpedoed their chances in the NFL by simply giving the wrong impression during the interview process.

That's a lovely sweater you're wearing, Howard_T.

The article says some NFL execs are upset by this process. Why? Herock is providing a pre- service just as the NFL provides a post- service. Look at all the athletes who speak like their mouths are full of marbles when interviewed at the college level then speak with very proper diction after a few years in the league. Does anyone remember Randy Moss getting braces? The NFL is all about image and Herock is helping these young men to become wealthy representives of that organization - kudos to him if he can make a living doing it.

For the record, Tim Carter is a lousy reciever. (He's the number three reciever, and hardly ever gets much action.) So much for being his greatest success... but at least he is assertive *even though he's a crappy football player* ;)

For the record, Tim Carter is a lousy reciever [sic] Yeah, so? The Giants drafted him. That's kinda the point.

Yeah I know what the point was, im just pissed because the Giants wasted a draft pick on a guy who can't do anything on the field. I understand why it's his biggest success- how often do you see a lousy reciever drafted in the second round? But since ive never liked Tim Carter, and now I realized how high he was drafted, im a bit PO'd.

I don't know that he's Herock's biggest success, just that he considers him a success.
