Hidden: USC-Pete gone?: It's that time of year and the coaching carousel is starting up. Pete C. has done a fantastic job at USC. As a ND fan that is painful to say. USC just seems to reload every year under his leadership. I think it would be a huge mistake for him to jump back to the NFL.
Sometimes you have to understand where your place is. Carroll's is in the college game... not the NFL.

Look for UCLA defensive coordinator DeWayne Walker to become a candidate in the coaching searches at Stanford and Boston College. Hard to put too much credence in a columnist if he doesn't realize that the Stanford coaching search was over well before the Dec. 22 publication date--Jim Harbaugh moved north from UCSD. In any case, I think the rumors may be there every year but Carroll hardly has "nowhere to go but down"--he has the chance to create a dynasty not matched since the Nebraska and Oklahoma teams of the early '70s. Being at or near the top of the pile every year with different sets of players will prove Carroll's quality and give him the chance to rank with Bryant, Paterno and Osborne.

I didn't want to come across as anti-Carroll my point is find something that your good at and stick with it and Carroll is a damn good college coach. Unless, of course, he's bored. Some folks, successful or not need a change of pace every once in a while.

From USD (University of San Diego) not UCSD (University of California, San Diego). UCSD has never had a football team.

The title of your FPP is "USC-Pete gone?" Yet, you link to an article that only mentions Pete Carroll in passing, and then doesn't even spend a whole paragraph on him. This is not worthy of an FPP. Just because it's sitting there on Yahoo! doesn't mean you have to post it. Write a column on the possibility of Carroll leaving USC, or link a more substantive article, (took me all of thirty seconds to find it) but don't leave this up on the Front Page as a post, because it's not.

It would be disappointing to see Carroll go back to the NFL. If I recall he wasn't terribly successful the last time around (33-31 regular season, 1-2 in the playoffs, fired twice in four years as an NFL coach). USC is a good fit for him and he is a good fit for USC. Just becaus he has"nowhere to go but down" as the article says doesn't mean he is definately going to be succesful anywhere else. He is a great college coach.
