Jiri Fischer: One year later.: It was just about a year ago today that Jiri Fischer collapsed and suffered a heart seizure on the Red Wings' bench in Detroit. Fischer says, "It really changed my life for the better. I haven't been this lucky in my life..."
If you read the article you would notice that he collapsed near the team trainer who also happend to be an emergency technician and had quick access to a defibulator. Thats lucky. If he were on the ice, on a plane, at home he would have died. It's a shame because his game was really picking up at both ends of the ice and he was in the prime of his career. I hope he can healthy enough to come back.

If that is being lucky,I'd hate to think of constitutes bad luck! Being a world class athlete, dropping to the floor and dying in front of 30,000 people, none of whom can do a damn thing to help you = bad luck. Not dying = extremely lucky. Seems easy to figure out.

I didn't know he had two more episodes at home after that. Kind of freaks me out since he is 5 years younger than me and I drink and smoke. Not to mention all the drugs I did in my early 20's.

I'm glad to see that he's alive and well. I sure do miss him on the ice, but I would rather see him do it with a doctor's full approval. When I saw that happen to him last year, it really freaked me out.

I admit I skimmed the article towards the end, but from what I gather, he is more or less devoting his body to the research for new treatments to his ailment. He wears an heartbeat-regulating "life vest" at all times. Somehow, I don't think coming back to hockey is very important to him right now. All the best to him.
