Be like the Red Wings and Stars and Senators...?: a worthwhile rant by Terry Frei

Here, here. Being true hockey fans, my wife and I will enjoy the Stanley cup playoffs, no matter who is playing, we just love hockey. Besides, it's fun to watch an underdog take on, and beat, a favorite. We are Avalanche fans, but more than that, we are hockey fans. Like the article says, we will enjoy it!

I'm so bitter with envy, cosumed with thoughts that it just isn't fair that Anaheim or Carolina could win a Cup. Must root for Edmonton and Buffalo. Side note: When I fill out those required demographic things on websites i'm a 98 year old woman from Beverly Hills. Bottom note: Does Emilio Estevez get his name on the Cup if the Ducks win?

Let me see if I get this straight: a team wins four best-of-seven series and it's not "fair" that they take home the Stanley Cup? Are games rigged in favor of Anaheim or Cackalacky or something?

I think one of the bigger issues that isn't really being addressed is the fact that this year, like many others, but perhaps more obvious than years past, is just how totally unimportant the regular season is. 82 games of exhibition. A 2, 5, 6, and 8 seed in the final four?

If you Oiler fans want to see your team win, then you better get on MacTavish's ass to wear that necklace made of moose poop. I don't think you want to mess with the Cree's mojo.

Where's the round 3 thread? I'm taking Edmonton and Carolina, both in 6.

Let me see if I get this straight: a team wins four best-of-seven series and it's not "fair" that they take home the Stanley Cup? I didn't say they didn't deserve it or that it means any less. It just rips my heart out to see young teams win a championship. That's what i mean by not fair. I'm sure Leafs fans understand what i mean.

This way, commander cody. how totally unimportant the regular season is. 82 games of exhibition Well, 14 teams were eliminated. Actually, I agree that the season is way too long for what it means, but I don't see any way around this that doesn't diminish revenues a whole lot. If you cut the number of regular season games in two, then you get an interesting season (I'd watch it), where each game has a lot more value, but you cut regular season revenue in half. If you limit the playoffs to the 8 best teams in the league, then you lose one round of extra revenue for 16 teams.

I sure wish Cackalacky was still playing.

Uh, they are, chico.

I'd rather blame the teams-with-more-players-in-the-olympics-bowed-out-early thing than the current system.

So Cackalacky is actually -- Oh! Ohhhhhhhhhh.....

Here you go, chico.

Thanks qbert72. I was afraid I wasn't going to get the chance to embaress myself with my picks again.

Just because my Wings are not in the playoffs anymore (cough-cough-CHOKE!-cough-cough) doesn't mean I won't watch any more hockey. I love the sport, and love the Stanley Cup Playoffs no matter who's in it. That's the beauty of hockey -- the pure unadulterated passion you see game in and game out.
