Devils have cracked their EGG line Well so far it has paid dividends. With Elias, Gomez and Gionta all on one line, that meant the majority of the scoring was coming from one line. Elias and Gomez make everyone around them better so it only makes sense to put these guys on separate lines. Now we have the young scoring line of Parise, Gomez and Gionta. The veteran scoring line of Elias, Brylin and Langenbrunner. The defensive line of Marshall, Pandolfo and Madden. The checking line of Weimer, Jaansen and Rasmussen. The only bad thing that might come out of it is that Jamie Langenbrunner is one of the best two-way forwards in the game so moving him up to a scoring line may hurt their defensive line (formerly with Pandolfo and Madden) a little. But in todays NHL (and yesterdays for that matter) you need more than one scoring line, so I think the +'s out weigh the -'s. The Devils finally got it right, if they make a run in the playoffs, I don't see anybody going anywhere.

I'm just happy for Jamie Rivers. The trade that sent him to Phoenix was the best thing for him. It was hard for him to get ice time up here in Detroit, and he'll get plenty down there. Look for him to shine.

As for Vancouver, the latest poll shows that Bertuzzi will be gone before Coach Crawford. I think that Bertuzzi needs a change of scenery; he's pretty much made himself a pariah in the locker room. A fresh start is needed for both the team and him.

As far as Boston goes, word on the street has it that O'Connell's work will be re-evaluated in the off-season. So he'll probably make a ton of moves to try to save his job. He signed Thomas (g) and Axelsson (defensive forward), and he'll probably re-sign Gill (5th or 6th D-man) soon. I'm almost bummed that Boston has Axelsson for another 3 years. On a better team, he might be considered for the Selke.

I don't get why they would deal Nick Boyton; this is kind of a lost year for him due to injuries and he's been whining. Nothing like swapping a decent piece of the puzzle when his value is in the crapper. Buy high, sell low. I thought Jeremy Jacobs built his career on the opposite philosophy.

Neal Abbott is the agent for both Axelsson and Samsonov.

Has anyone seen this goal? I did see a highlight of it. It was kinda cool. It looked like he ran out of room to make a shot, ran into and got tangled up with the goalie, and spun around and knocked the puck home.

This just in: Bruins fire general manager O'Connell.

It would be interesting to see if this makes any difference at all. Was Mike O'Connell a bad GM or was he completely hamstrung by Jacobs and Sinden?

Other news: Ottowa is the first team to clinch a playoff berth. Pittsburgh was the first team mathematically eliminated.

"That was almost as fantastic a goal as Alexander Ovechkin's. That was a jaw-dropper. That's one of the best goals I've ever seen from a trick-shot point of view." - Sharks coach Ron Wilson on Steve Bernier's spinning in the crease goal against St. Louis. Has anyone seen this goal?
