British Cyclists Honor Four Fallen Riders: Cyclists rode in black arm bands Sunday to honor four members of the Rhyl Cycling Club killed one week ago when a car slid into a pack of riders on an icy North Wales road. "This is a terrible tragedy, the worst single incident involving cyclists that I can recall in Great Britain over at least the last forty years," said British Cycling President Brian Cookson.

Definitely a sad day. Car v. bike does not usually go well for the rider. In the Bay Area, where I guess between population density, weather and preference we have a sizable number of bikers, there is usually one death every 6-8 weeks in the news and in fact we had one in last Sunday's paper.

Sounds a lot like the Ride of Silence. I particpated in 2004 here in Dallas. It was very intense to be with several thousand cyclists riding around White Rock in complete silence. Very powerful.

The President of the cycling association is right. What a dreadful day for all cyclists.

The Aussie women's cyclist team lost several members in a similar accident in europe just last year.
