Last minute shopping ideas for the person who has everything:: James Naismith's family is planning to sell the original Rules of Basketball for $10 million. The profits will go to a youth charity. Reading the original thirteen rules (listed in the article) shows that the game may have changed just a bit since 1891.

I figured the rules would be different, but -- I don't see any provision for dribbling. It reads like Ultimate, except with a ball instead of a frisbee.

Yeah, it actually reads like a pretty boring game*. I really like the beginning of number ten, though: "The umpire shall be judge of the men" Such power! *not dissing ultimate

They forgot one: 14. There shall never be a national league, ever, for womens basketball, and under no circumstances, shall a womens basketball game be showed to national audiences-its too embarrising for the fans, players, and the game.

15. No person shall be allowed to post any thoughts, opinions, or other such utterances on an internet board of any kind, until such time as that person learns how to spell and use grammar above the third grade level. As you so eloquently put it: its too embarrising

16. Nobody better be dissing Ultimate. That's pretty cool, though.

steelcityguy, like most people who drop idiotic ill-informed turds like that into these conversations, won't think to come back into this thread. Why would he? But seriously, dribbling is one of the fundamental building blocks of the sport. It's part of the definition of the game. I'm trying to imagine what it would look like, keeping the ball off the floor, peach baskets just above head level... I wonder if there are any Oldest-Of-The-Old-School tournaments or something similar.

What to get for the person who has everything? A course of broad spectrum antibiotics. Peace, everyone.

16. Nobody better be dissing Ultimate. I swear I wasn't! Some of my best friends in college were huge ultimate fans. It's just that me and my lungs prefer disc golf. That's all.
