Baseball wildcards should lift our spirits: The tight pennent races and the playoffs will help get rid of the "funk" we are feeling brought on by all of the sad news of late. To me sports, in general, offer a nice release. I would throw College FB and the NFL into this "funk buster mode" as well.
In the AL, Chicago is an almost sure bet for the Central division title. The key word in this sentence is Almost. On July 3rd the Indians were 10 games behind the White Sox, and in third place in the central division. Now the Indians are only 4 games back, and are leading the wild card race. I am not sure how this author can just write the Tribe off as long shots like this. They have been one of the hottest teams in MLB the second half of the year, and are making one hell of a push not just for the wc, but at the division. The White Sox and Indians still have 6 games left against each other. As a Tribe fan I pray that those remaining games go a whole lot better than the games between the two teams at the begining of the year. On the other hand lets face it, niether of these teams are really at the same level they were at the begining of the year. Or the tribe would look like KC, and the White Sox would look like St L. !

I almost miss the days when we KNEW the Red Sox would somehow blow it. Stop.

I expect Boston to fall apart in the final series against New York. The Sox will be all about the Wild Card this year. Perhaps deja vu all over again?

Since we're bringing it up, the plural of "ox" is "oxen". That's been bothering me for a while.

Thank goodness for the wild card. Go Cleveland! For one of the lowest payroll rosters in baseball they have the same record as Boston and .5 games on NYY. The extra 120 million plus spent by each of those teams is embarassing to baseball. A teams got to buy a World Series- What a joke. The Tribe's alive 05.

I appreciare the Yankee Red Sox Banter. However, I posted the link to spark the old "sports is a release valve when times are hard" arguement. Thats why its posted to culture and not baseball. Yankees fans and Sox fans need to realize that only one may make the playoffs. Whether its playoff baseball, college football, or the NFL big time athletice are providing our country with some "breaks" from hard times.. I know the military uses Audio and Video links to events to boast moral all over the globe. Thats where I was trying to head the discussion. The old Sox Yankee thing gets old ofter a while. By the way: Thanks for the FPP there big daddy!!! posted by jojomfd1 at 4:20 PM CST on September 17 I my be big and I may be a daddy but I am NOT your or anybody elses "big Daddy" Oxen-their tails make a great soup! ;-)

Indians 7 White Sox 5 This was one hell of an opener to a three game series. The Tribe is now only 2.5 games back in the central. This is going to be one damn good race, especially since these two teams close the year out with 3 more against each other!

Here is an AP article that sums up the current AL situation.

The Tribe is still 2.5 games back, but ended those 3 games on a pretty big note. This last week and a half will be a big deal for all involved. Certainly some good baseball to watch, it is kind of hard to switch into football mode with a playoff race like this going on.

The Yankees will probably end up winning the AL East. The Sox seem to be on Cruise Control, and as a Masshole, I expect Boston to fall apart in the final series against New York. The Sox will be all about the Wild Card this year. If this happens, it will be heartwrenching fun to watch the loveable underdogs play their asses off in the postseason again. Weird, but I almost miss the days when we KNEW the Red Sox would somehow blow it. Yeah, I watched Fever Pitch last night.
