The NBA shows its support to Katrina victims...: I saw the promos for this on TNT tonight, big props to anybody who helps out in what will likely be the most devastating natural disaster in American history.

I am so glad to see the NBA joining in on efforts for relief. It's also a great perk to see a game.

I attended a Bulls-Heat hurricane fundraiser right after Andrew; this was '92, so Jordan basically at the height of his powers. All the kids who got to go could have cared less for a couple of hours that they had no houses anymore- they got to see Jordan. The impact might not be huge (especially given the scale of the problem) but for those kids who do get to attend and see Shaq or Lebron it'll be something they carry with them through all the tough times.

Lots of sports and companies are doing this--MLS and US Soccer auctioned off player game jersey's from last weekend's matches, for instance, and FoxSoccerChannel is running frequent bottom of the screen messages urging donations to Red Cross and Salvation Army. All good.
