Is That Your Intangibles, Or Are You Just Happy to See Me?: The home plate embrace has never looked more intimate than this shot of Gary Sheffield and Derek Jeter.

I'm a fan of great sports photos, which don't show up here often because they don't lend themselves to discussion. So I'm going to dig up a few more, like this golf shot of David Toms clowning around.

good stuff

I think I'd prefer the fist pound, or (gasp) the high five. Aw, who am I kidding - I want Sheffield to grab my ass. Nothing says success like a whole bunch of guys crowding around trying to touch your ass.

Now we know why Sheffield is having such a good year. Love can make you a better player, and a better person. Not that there's anything wrong with that...

That is fucking awesome. Fark away!

The combination of longing, lingering gaze into the eyes, with the ass grab and the hug is truly the trifecta of awkward.

thanks rcade, that golf shot made my day

It looks more like Jeter is holding some candy and is playing "keep-away" from Sheffield... "Gimme some candy!" "No. You can't have any!" "Gimme gimme gimme!" "No!"

sheffield and jeter? did a-rod and jeter break up?

posted by celtic8 at 12:26 PM on June 23, 2005

Can someone put a rose in Jeter's mouth? I thought "tango" the first time I saw it.

I think it's sweet.

Sheffield: "let me straighten out those pinstripes" Jeter: "is that your cup or are you just happy to see me?" Plus they were probably playing "Endless Love" over the stadium PA there...

Plus they were probably playing "Endless Love" over the stadium PA there... Nope, November Rain. I do believe I know who requested it.

Arod will not be happy about this.

Arod will not be happy about this. he had his chance. sheff tried to give him some love last year but arod just didn't want any part of it. sheff seemed a bit upset with arod's rejection.

Arod will not be happy about this. As if this one wasn't sufficiently tired the first time someone said it...

As a Red Sox fan, let me be the first to say, "I'm pretty sure that's Miguel Cairo."

As if this one wasn't sufficiently tired the first time someone said it... Aww, I'm crushed. And here I thought it was completely original and a laugh riot. Don't be down lil brown bat, with a win today ny will split with tampa bay! Good times...

Year 2000!

Can we unbalance the schedule some more and give Tampa 4 extra games against so they can pass them? Let's play two!

it's my fault. i broke open my piggy bank this year and bought season tickets. and now i've cursed them. the baseball gods must hate me.

Uhm, I thought those kind of thoughts were our lines? I, for one, am simply enjoying a year of not worrying how I sit on the couch might be affecting the game. The number 86 holds no fascination for us anymore. If that's the first thing out of the holster, re-arm.

Uhm, I thought those kind of thoughts were our lines? they are (or were). i'm not really serious. although along your "sitting on the couch" lines i am thinking of taking a different route to the stadium tonight.

The number 86 holds no fascination for us anymore. If that's the first thing out of the holster, re-arm. Amen brother. As a life long BoSox fan, I have a new, unfamiliar feeling this year. I thought the role-reversal of last year's ALCS would reset itself with the start of the new season. But it hasn't. The Yankees, while still a team to respect and fear in the AL East, are now the team that are underachieving, not us. It's fascinating to watch their Jekyll and Hyde season, and my 3 beer buzz still hasn't worn off yet from last year.

my 3 beer buzz still hasn't worn off yet from last year. That's some kinda beer. Care to share, for those of us on a budget?

That's some kinda beer. Care to share, for those of us on a budget? lbb, I'd have to say when Johnny Damon hit the grand slam in game 7 of the ALCS, that's when I felt the buzz hit. Love to share, but you'll have to get your own.

funny smith, that's when i threw my beer up.

Love to share, but you'll have to get your own. Things being things and history being history, it wouldn't surprise me if I got "my own" before you got your next installment ;-)

it wouldn't surprise me if I got "my own" before you got your next installment ;-) Let me get this straight: you're going to suffer through an extended drought, watch Fox Sports insist on ridiculous curses, watch player after player enjoy success elsewhere . . . and then have your team win the Series against all odds? Where does the Cubs bandwagon board nowadays?
