Smith #1, Rogers ???: Until yesterday everything I read said the 49ers were tossing a coin over using the first pick on Utah's Alex Smith or Cal's Aaron Rodgers. Halfway through the first round, the Niners did take Smith but Rodgers is still sitting in the audience and Donovan McNabb's mom is consoling his mom. Why has the Cal star dropped so far? Would you have taken Smith? What are your choices for biggest surprise, worst and best selections?

Raiders didn't impress me by trading up to get Fabian Washington. For all his speed, I think corners need to be taller to cover better and beefier to stuff the corner on runs.

Packers took Rodgers at #24. Glad to see they are looking ahead to Favre's retirement, considering he's been hinting at it for several years. Plus, he's gonna get creamed out there this year unless the Pack bolsters their O-line.

If you have to fall, Green Bay's not a bad place to land. Unless Favre was the last important piece of the recent winning era and the Packers will revert to perennial sub-.500 seasons when he leaves. Weak O line is not a good thing, that's for sure.

Smith is the best 1st round pick this year nobody in the draft deserves the 1st pick this year next year will be a differant story i wouldnt mind first choice next year and then the decission would be the qb from texas or usc so this year they should have traded it away for jerry rice and did what they could with what they got

trade the 1st pick of the draft for...Jerry Rice? Dude thats insane. The niners did the right thing and Smith will be a decent QB for them for many years.

Maybe he was referring to the future Jerry Rice, such as Edwards?

there well never be another jerry rice not moss or T O even has the right to stand next to sir JERRY RICE and a fiesrt round choice this year is worthless so sign jerry and go

there have been recievers with as much or more talent than Jerry Rice. What made him great was great QB's like Montana and Young! Plus the fact that he stuck around so long and stayed healthy. His work ethic is probably unequaled in NFL history except for Walter Payton, no one worked and trained harder than Rice. But for talent, I would take a Paul Warfield of old or Isaac Bruce today because they are good guys and not bad influences on other players and kids.

What I am kind of shocked about is that White from OU didn't get drafted at all. Not even for clipboard jockey.

My biggest surprise so far is that the Niners didn't trade down but I guess no one else really wanted to go first. Bad year to have the #1.
