From what I remember, as part of an agreement with the city/people of Cleveland, the Ravens became an expansion franchise (essentially). The city/people retained the Browns name, history, stats, records, etc. while Baltimore started with a clean slate.

I love the illusions people agree to live by. Not that it matters.

That reminds me of a joke I heard that was in Drew Carey's book. I guess he had a chapter that was all big dick jokes, and the joke was "My dick is so big, I could never play for the Browns, because Art Modell won't allow a bigger dick than him on the team"...

You know if this had come out a couple days later it would have included Artest, with a bullet. Good read.

Ha! That was a pretty entertaining read. However, I must say that I take exception to this entry: The Cleveland Browns for honoring the 1964 Browns before their season opener. The Browns left town after the 1995 season and become the Baltimore Ravens, which meant the new Browns, an expansion team, were honoring the Baltimore Ravens, their opening-day opponent. The team ceased being the Cleveland Browns the moment that the moving vans crossed the city limits. Everybody in the front office became dead to the fans of the Browns. in the hearts of Browns fans everywhere, the present day organization is the same orgranization from generations back.
