Goooooooooooooal!!!! Last night's Zinedine Zidane super-strike to win the Champions League Final was amazing and will be ranked as one of the all time greats. What's your nomination for greatest ever goal? A selection of goal videos is available here to help you decide (sorry, opens an annoying new window).

I don't watch soccer that much except for the World Cup, but Maradona's goal where he ran through the entire English defence and then struck it beautifully into the back of the net is definitely the greatest goal I've ever seen in my life. It's a shame that it's always remembered as the "other goal" because of the the "Hand of God" goal he got in the same game.

I 2nd the Maradona goal. Too bad I didn't see the goal yesterday. Especially in America it's going to be tough to see the replay. Anyone know where I can see it online?

I'll third the Maradonna goal...and... Keith Houchen (Coventry City v Spurs 1987 FA Cup final) Robert Pires (Aston Villa v Arsenal 2002) Dennis Bergkamp (Arsenal v Newcastle 2002) ...come to think of it, there are too many... A cracking goal which will be hyped into the sun in the run up to WC2002 but there really are at least 30 ahead of it...

Yeah, Zidane's goal last night was a thing of beauty. I also like Bergkamp's goal this year against Newcastle. Did anyone see Castroman's (Lazio) goal against Roma last year? It was off a corner. The Roma defense headed out the corner and Castroman drilled a beautiful banana with the outside of his foot from like 35 yards out...

Wow. Nice goal. I wish world-class soccer was on more frequently in the US. I played soccer growing up, I feel I can appreciate the game more than many of my country-mates and would love the chance to watch games without having to pay-per-view. We don't get much more than that on this side of the pond and when we do it's days late. And frankly, the MLS doesn't have the caliber of play or the history associated with it yet to make it worth my time. Seriously, that's an awesome goal. And I'll fourth Maradona's.

86: MLS picked up the rights to screen the World Cup for free (no US network wanted 'em!) & have struck a deal with ESPN & ABC - schedule here - altho' I'm not sure of the PPV situation in the US. I think that the main Spanish-language network in the US will be broadcasting too. From what I've heard, MLS may do well on the back of the main US sports going more PPV. The finance & organization seems to be getting better too but I think you're right about the caliber ;-) It'll be interesting to see which of the minority-sports-playing New World countries (ie USA & Australia!) do best at football (soccer) in the coming years. At the moment I'd say the US but Oz have a lot of potential... Last time I was in the States (99) there was PPV of the English Premiership Sunday games and a pretty decent round up program shown in the week. In England, the whole pay-channel & PPV idea has gone arse-up in a big way. Reports here with a more general overview here. Slight (!) digression...back to the main event...

From what i can tell, every single World Cup game is going to be televised in the States! Guess what i'll be doing for a month?!
