Warner: coaches said Jesus hates touchdowns. : Benched Rams QB and former MVP Kurt Warner says that coaches scorned his bible-reading and suggests he "lost [his] job because of [his] faith." The quotes first came out in a story on baptistpress.com.
"The real Super Bowl title is committing our life to Jesus, and then we have to defend the title." Sorry it took me a while to respond. I just ralphed all over my keyboard. This is all really weird because in essence the Rams can't trade Warner without taking a huge hit against the salary cap, although people are framing it as him trying to force a deal. All I can say is maybe ... the devil made him do it?

God, like everyone else, was tired of Warner.

Does the second set of brackets mean Kurt said "fucking this thing up" to the baptistpress.com writer? I would imagine "screwing" it up would be enough to merit some editorial license for the baptistpress folks. It'd be the same if he was focusing too much on politics, or his family, or writing a book, or any other thing. If it takes away too much from your practice and preparation time, it's bad for the team. There's no symbolism behind it, no pseudo-crucifixtion as it were. A religious martyr, he is not.

I second that Ufez. I work with a woman who is desperately lonely and constantly complains to me how there are no good guys left in this city. Her incessant whining never bothered me until my department's salaries and bonuses were frozen. Now I want her fired. I imagine I would feel the same if she was proselytizing me.

Bandwidth theft is quite irritating ;)

Ufez, for the ignorant, what does that mean? Am I screwing someone else over by doing that?

Well, on SpoFi, probably not too bad. Basically, when you hotlink an image, it pulls it off of whoever's server it's stored on each time someone loads this page, causing them to lose some of their bandwidth quota for the month, which in theory could cost them money. Like I said, on a site like this, it's not horrible, but on something like Fark or a LiveJournal or even MeFi, it adds up tremendously.

Being a complete whacko would be another reason Warner is no longer starting.

Will Hall, executive editor of The Baptist Press, issued a statement Thursday. "Baptist Press published a report about the message Kurt Warner presented at a Houston area church ... Our reporter taped the message and I am confident that Mr. Warner's intent was to inspire and encourage others with his remarks -- this was the context of our report." Uh, dude ... if your reporter taped the speech, how's about going back and posting that chunk verbatim on your web site so we can make up our own minds. If he quoted Warner correctly, you are in the clear. If not, you have a big ole' Baptist firing on your hands.

he "lost [his] job because of [his] faith." What a great big load of hooey this is. There's an incredible amount of jesus jive that goes on in the locker rooms, in the huddle, on the sidelines, etc. of football at every level -- not every game, not every team, but there's a helluva lot of it. Christians in the United States, Warner included, who are tempted to whine "discrimination!" don't have the first idea. STFU, idjit.

rederailing: i DO hotlink images quite a bit... where could I store my own pictures (or copies thereof) to link from? or am i stupid for not knowing this?

FCT, I'm sure there are free solutions but to be honest my opinion is you should pay for some hosting and your own domain.

i DO hotlink images quite a bit... where could I store my own pictures You know, 1and1 was giving three years of hosting away for free for a while. It's over now. If it were still on it would have been a perfect solution. Oh well. Anyway, it should work now.

Yes. You'll need to be careful with copyrighted images, but for what we're doing here, you'll probably be OK.

Aside from the obvious questions -- did his seven game losing streak as a starter play a larger role -- there are two more frivolous things I noticed about this story: *The quote in question: "I actually had [Rams] coaches say I was reading the Bible too much and it was taking away from my play," he said. "It was OK when we were winning, but now I was [messing] this thing up? People were saying I had lost my job because of my faith." Does the second set of brackets mean Kurt said "fucking this thing up" to the baptistpress.com writer? *"You want to say, 'God, how could You allow this to happen?'" he said. "I thought I was over the fact of being a backup." Some find it difficult to reconcile the existence of a just God with a world including war and genocide. Apparently, it's just as hard to reconcile backing up Marc Bulger.
