The Carolina Panthers "fan of the game" taunted Simeon Rice and Warren Sapp of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Sunday's game, leading to some uncomfortable moments when Rice responded with two straight sacks. "Instead of being recognized as 'Fan of the Year' you should be recognized as "faggot ass who almost lost the game for us," one irate visitor (among many) wrote on the fan's Web site.
Fans do not lose games, Grady Little ... ahem ... I mean the players do. And since when is it a crime to taunt opposing players while watching a game ... especially in football!?! It seems like there's a new generation of sports fans who are just flat out dumb.

Also, the stadium went wild until the sacks were registered. Everyone loved the guy until the offensive line opened up a gap to the QB.

Who trash talks when you only have a 6 point lead with 10 minutes to go? Maybe this can turn into a thread of all-star fan performances. Meanwhile you have to wonder about folks who blame the audience for their team's problems.

I whole-heartedly concur. The fact that Rice got pumped up while the Panther O-line snoozed tells you a helluva lot more about Carolina than it does about that fan. Of course, it says a lot about the Panther fan base when they use phrases such as "faggot ass." Tampon Bay Bullies Suck my balls panther fans Bend over Delhomo Sapp is a Fat Ass and Rice Swallows I love you, SpoFi.

I've been to a game at Carolina as a fan of the visiting team. Those people are some of the rowdiest, loudest, more obnoxious people...it just boggles the mind. Jax had won the game something like 21-19, and the fans of Carolina were actually talking junk like "you only beat us by 2??? HAH!". Must be all the tobacco in the area...

Earlier, from the NYT: ...a selected "fan of the day" was handed a microphone just as Carolina was to begin its next drive. In colorful language, the fan guaranteed a Panthers victory, but his words seemed to motivate the Bucs. "Colorful language", eh? Somehow I don't think this guy said "kick your butts". Any witnesses wanna testify?

Man, I have to wonder what is wrong with the Bucs this year. It takes a fan taunting them from the Jumbotron to get their defense pumped up? I guess being down a touchdown but still in the game isn't enough these days, you gotta have your manhood challenged before you get motivated.

Hell, I'd love for my Jags to have fans like this. Given the opportunity, I'd probably say the same thing. Besides, even with the Panthers' supposed "rule of silence" in place, I'm sure those feelings were expressed to Rice and others from the Carolina players before this took place.
