RIP Horace Clarke, who became the face of an era of Yankee mediocrity. A role that was later reprised by Don Mattingly.

I was not a Yankees fan but was able to watch their games on WPIX and became familiar with the team. The Yankees teams that Clarke was on had their share of talent. They were just up against superior competition in the era before and after divisional play began.

Clarke was solid, steady, and a hard worker regardless of the circumstances. I can still hear Phil Rizzuto jovially announcing him as he came to the plate. "And now here's Harris Clock...".

Welcome to North Carolina, where we start the week with a hurricane and end it with an earthquake

This is called a "four-base error".

Ouch. Rubber gloves sometimes not helpful in the workplace.

Does this mean that the unfortunate kid (Roger?) is not going to get to live with a real family?

Technically it's a 4 base award, but the fielder is charged with an error.
