The Boston Herald's Steve Buckley has written this tribute to Bobby Doerr, former Red Sox 2nd baseman, who passed away Monday at age 99. Buckley points out how Doerr was the last of an era in baseball, and was involved in games with baseball greats who had actually been active in the 19th century. Another connection is Doerr's influence on a noted Boston sports figure from an entirely different sport. A bit of a long read, but if your interests include some baseball history, it is worth the several minutes.
