Would you have the guts to make any of these calls?: The Ten Gutsiest Calls of All Time. Some of these you'll doubtless have heard of; others, maybe not. For my money, the hockey coach who picked himself to play goalie when his starter got hurt is pretty damned gutsy.
I've always thought the lists were backwards. Are you supposed to read the intro, scroll to the bottom and then scroll up? That's bad formatting.

I can't believe the list didn't include Tommy Lasorda calling on the hobbled Kirk Gibson to pinch-hit in Game 1 of the 1988 World Series. There was serious doubt that Gibson could have gotten to first base on ANY ball hit to the outfield (he was so badly injured that he didn't make another appearance for the rest of the series), so Lasorda was basically saying "Go hit me a home run!". If it had backfired, Lasorda would have been villified in the media the next day. Of course, everything worked out perfectly. I've always thought the lists were backwards. Are you supposed to read the intro, scroll to the bottom and then scroll up? That's bad formatting. They got the home-run list done correctly (counting up from 100, the #1 being at the bottom of the last page).

Number 8 is not that much of a risk. The way it's written, you'd think that Jordan had never played in a NCAA game and they put him in on a whim and he saved the day. Jordan had been scoring 13.5 points a game and shooting better than 50% from the field his freshman year (source) so making him the second option on a last shot isn't all that big of a risk. And yeah, number 10 is quite a cool story. I wish they'd have a film of that game.

Eeek! Pop-up warning please Ufez. Here's another college stat link for Jordan pop-up free.

Sorry nemo, thanks to mozilla, I haven't seen a pop-up (or under) in a very very long time.

No prob Fez, just putting it out there who are "trying to get some work done". Wink-wink, nudge-nudge.

yeah, the list is backwards....playing no-mask goalie for your first time in the Stanley Cup playoffs is the ballsiest thing I've ever heard of, especially after your starter gets knocked unconscious.
