New York Mets Back in the World Series: The New York Mets swept the Chicago Cubs in the NLCS, advancing to the World Series for the first time since 2000. In an 8-3 victory, Mets infielder Daniel Murphy hit a homer for the sixth straight postseason game -- something no one has ever done before in Major League Baseball. The Mets were so dominant they never trailed in the series. Good luck to the Kansas City Royals or Toronto Blue Jays.

If you're in college and you've been cutting philosophy class this fall, just tell the professor that you've been studying the work of Syndergaard and deGrom.

The downside to the sweep is that there is no baseball today.

Not one game.

I'm following the OBO of England v Pakistan in Dubai. That's how desperate I am.

Murphy is from Jacksonville and occasionally spends an hour hanging out on sports radio with the morning hosts on 1010 XL. He tells some of the funniest stories about how players treat each other on the field I've ever heard. I'm glad that he's blowing up like this in what seems likely to be his final season with the Mets.

You know, I used to hate the postseason off-days. I always thought postseason baseball should be played on the schedule as the regular season. I never liked the thought of teams being able to use a three/four-man rotation and a three-man bullpen.

But that was before the Jays made the playoffs. After a crazy ALDS and five games through the ALCS, I'm exhausted. I need to rest up for Game 6. Very thankful for the off-day.

I guess it's the last year of his contract, but the Mets are in a decent market and generally have some cash to spend, compared to a lot of other teams. Why wouldn't they make a concerted effort to keep him?

I keep hearing they don't want him. He offered them a chance to talk about an extension earlier this season and that didn't go anywhere.

My Dad is a huge fan of the Mets and he's thrilled, so I'm thrilled. That said, wow I'd love to see a Cubs World Series.
